Oh the earthborn's easy for me. They deliver and it's an eay to navagate site that seperates the products by grain free or what have you. It cost a bit mor that totw but subtract the 1.5hr and it's bout a wash. I still want to get into some raw myself. It's getting the wife on board. I mis the opi and andy day's. When things were black and white.

Have you considered premade raw? It can be expensive but maybe your wife would be more likely to get on board with premade? You could even do one meal kibble and one meal premade.

Sorry didn't mean to complain just concerns of mine, along with normal stools, and above all flavor. I've gone through so many dog food brands with him. Been on TOTW for almost 2 years now disappointing to switch again. I just need to find something that agrees with him.

Yea I hear ya about the cost. I'm hoping once we move to Montana that we can make the switch to at least part time raw if not full time.

I think part time is where were headed. The dogs will eat a bowl of dirt if you lace it with good stuff. hahahaha. Thats how I knew they did'nt loose their apetite but rather tired of the taste.

I know I will never feed as cheap as raw but some of these kibbles jack their prices, IMO. Reminds me of the Abady dog food, their prices are outrageous!

That's what sucks too. Price isn't a good indicator of quality when it comes to dog food, except when it comes to grocery store/walmart dog foods. Besides those, the higher priced foods aren't always a better quality. Dog foods can be different prices depending on where you live as well. It took a lot of trial and error for us to find a food that works for our dogs. And again what works for one dog, might not work for another. Orijen for instance is a great food but it's too rich for some dogs and it'll go right through them.

I was getting low on TOTW so I went out a brought small bag of Innova and mixed it , food went right through Thor, but he loved it. Back fully on TOTW and normal stools. sigh.

Innova also isn't grain free so that might've been the issue as well or just that he wasn't transitioned slowly. It's never fun with the food goes right through them though, especially if it's right through them onto your carpet, floor, etc. haha.

I know it was the transitioning it was the best I could do on short notice, I paid the price in more ways than one LOL! I brought the one in the red bag that said it was grain free, I can't remember the flavor though.

I feed a "natural diet" and I buy it in pre-made blocks. Gunner gets raw and Roxi gets cooked (her immune system is compromised due to DM). I was buying a high quality grain, gluten, dairy free kibble but Gunner was getting hot spots and Rox just stopped eating it! So I made the switch. And it works out to be about a $50 dollar difference per month. However, they are both doing amazing, their coats are shiny and healthy and thier poopies are tiny and do not really smell!!!! I am just too nervous with kibble nowadays, and all the processing, but the Natural/Raw Diet can be pricey if you cannot find a good place to get it from.

I give Diamond Large Breed puppy to my female Mastiff "Bella" since I got her and she has done very well on it. She is 7 months old now and doing very well. I researched and researched this and even discussed it with my vet and chose Diamond, there are soooo many brands out there, really which one is the best brand?

It's not about which is the best brand because there's not ever going to be one brand that's perfect and every dog does well on. For me it's about supporting a company that doesn't have all kinds of recalls and lawsuits. I personally couldn't live with myself if something happened to one of my dogs because I fed them a food I knew had a history of issues. Now this isn't putting anyone down because I know there are several people who have very limited options as far as access to different kibbles. You just have to do the best you can with what you have. A little note here though: mastiffs aren't large breeds, they are giant breeds and also most vets don't have a very in depth background as far as nutrition as it's not something they spend a lot of time covering in vet school so make sure that regardless of what your vet says, you do your own research as well especially when it comes to nutrition and spaying/neutering.

I know the Mastiffs are large/giant breeds. The people we got her from was feeding them Purina and then switched to Pedigree. By the way the Purina gave them loose stools like crazy. When we got her I researched it all because my vet said I needed to feed a large breed formula. I researched till I was blue in the face. hahaha. And the Diamond large breed puppy got very good reviews. He is very up-to-date on large breeds, as we had very indepth discussions about my mastiff and I trust his word. I have owned "2" Rotty's and "2" German Shepards in my lifetime and he has been my vet for a very long time. I would trust him with the life of my dog, anytime, anywhere.

You actually don't need a large breed formula but I'm glad that particular formula is working for Bella. Finding a dog food that works is definitely a challenge with some dogs!

Ok, Now I am very unsure. I had no idea there were so many dog food options and I am totally ignorant to the "grain-free, etc" type foods. Are we discussing mainly taste and stool or is there more to this. I am almost embarressed to say it at this point but I have been feeding Ruger "Puppy Chow".

Don't be embarrassed. I'll give you the super speedy crash course to feeding a mastiff pup haha. You don't want a food that can be found at the grocery store or a store like Walmart. Expect to spend at least 40 dollars on a big ole bag of the good stuff. Now many mastiffs have issues with grains and chicken in their kibble so I prefer to avoid them both. Mastiffs ( and other giant breeds) need specific levels of calcium and ratios of calcium to phosphorus. There are many threads around as to what foods are okay and I'm working on a dog food guide as we speak so be patient with me haha. You do not need a puppy formula or large breed puppy formula. Foods that are labeled as large breed or puppy or senior are in most cases almost identical to the adult formulas but the puppy or large breed etc is a marketing gimmick and in most cases you'll wind up paying more and feeding more. In general the better the food, the less of it you'll have to feed. There's no reason for a mastiff puppy to be eating huge amounts of food. Mastiffs grow slowly and steadily (ideally) over the first three years. If they grow too fast (from eating too much, foods with incorrect levels, free feeding, etc) they can develop developmental issues which cannot always be corrected. I think I covered the major points. You'll learn that I tend to sound like a broken record about dog food, hence the dog food guide so everyone doesn't have to hear me go on anymore :)

I guess if it is working for him, no problem. The litter that Bella came from was fed Puppy chow and it give them loose stools so the lady switched them to Pedigree. I just went for a more natural diet, I guess, and researched it alot.
