Digestion Issue?

Hi, I am new to the forum, but I love all the good advice! I have a 9 month old English Mastiff, Rosie who is my world :D! She's had some skin/coat issues in the past so I started her on Fromm Large Breed puppy about a month ago and her stools haven't been steadily firm since. The food seems to be working in other ways in that her coat is looking a lot better, she's less itchy, and she has more energy, but she can't seem to get past these very loose stools. She gets about 2&a quarter cups am and pm which is amount suggested based on her weight (120lbs+/-), I am wondering if this is common with Fromm, if maybe I should move her to an adult formula or change the food altogether? If so, any suggestions? Thanks so much!

Well first off you don't need the large breed puppy formula. If you feed Fromm you should be doing the Adult Gold. But I will tell you Fromm is too rich for many dogs so that could likely be the problem here. If you want to try something else you'll need to transition slowly over to the new food. I will mention too though that many mastiffs have an issue with chicken and grains which the Fromm Large Breed Puppy and Adult Gold both have so that's something else to consider too.

I have yet been able to meet a mastiff who can handle fromm well. even thier grain free formulas are very rich. try to go to a single protein grain free food. i dont know where you live or whats available but nutrisource and pure vita grain free foods work very well. www.nutrisourcedogfood.com you can see if they sell near you another good option is evangers whitefish&sweet potato formula www.evangersdogfood.com. anything with a moderate protein and grain free should work, all fromm formulas contain broccli, eggs, and cheese which make it very hard on the tummy =)

Protein level is not important, the ratio of calcium to phosphorus and the calcium level are what's important for giant breed pups under 2 years.

I am aware of this, i said single protein because she mentioned the dog has had skin issues in the past. single protein does not generally mean low protein it just means there is one type of protein used in the food. if the dog had any allergies it would be hard to pin point if it was a multi protein food especialy if it contained several types of poultry.

Protein level is not essential, the proportion of calcium to phosphorus and the calcium level are what's critical for monster breed pups.
