Good choice of dog food?

Hey guys just wanted to get some opinions i have a 2 month old French Mastiff and im feeding him Ultra Holistic Super Food does anybody know if this is a good choice or is there something better?

We have an English Mastiff and we feed him Rachel Ray's Nutrish. No runny poo poo with this brand for us! Tried several.
He is now 1 year old.

I can't seem to win with food either! Our english Mastiff is 8 months old and eats Taste of the Wild (a 6 star food)- the vet had me take her off the large breed puppy food a couple of months ago due to the high fat content making her stools too soft and filling up her anal glands. I've gradually moved her to higher and higher quality foods trying to firm up her stools and get rid of her lethal gas but to no avail. I give her yogurt every day, per a tip from a friend who's a vet, and that does help- but the stools just aren't firming up. I've tried adding lean meat into her diet, and after a month + of that not making a difference in her stool (overall it's doing her good), i'm moving on to adding more fiber into her diet. I'm getting desperate!

I have a 6 year old English Mastiff and a 3 month Dogue de Bordeaux and feed them Diamond - large breed dry food. It is a no soy/corn/wheat food, and has been working out really well for my boys... I give the little guy a spoon of yogurt to soften it up for his tiny teeth, and he chows.

If you have a Tractor Supply Co store by you, they sell it for about $25 for 40 pounds.

I have heard some not too great things about this food....vets can sometimes be food-pushers....they get paid by dog food companies to suggest that type of food to people....very disheartening...check out this website: http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/

---------- Post added at 09:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:55 PM ----------

the food you feed is rated at 4 stars and royal canin is rated at 2 stars....

I have had my Bullmastiff on Acana since day one. They are the sister company to Orjion and are wheat free.

I always feed my puppy from getting advices from pet's doctor. Whatever he says i feed my pet. Because of the health of my doggy. I gives it biscuits and drink at lunch and for dinner chickens and eggs and also sometimes meat.

We are feeding our french mastiff Earthborne Hollistic. Unfortunantly we have to change him over to a low protein diet b/c he has kidney disease. But Earthborne was great before he started getting sick. (His kidney disease unfortunantly was genetic)

Hey There....food question and please be patient while I give a little background.
I have a 19 month old EM, who weighs roughly 165. Food has ALWAYS been an issue. He is picky picky picky. I've gone from Wellness to Blue Buffalo to now, Taste of the Wild. Perhaps, I created this:-( Right now he eats Taste of the Wild (Wetlands) "wet" food, but, he is given far too much table food, which I want to stop all together. Not only is it not healthy for him, but he now doesn't want to eat any dog food. Food is just too expensive for him to waste.
I just can't have that. So 3 questions....how long will he go without eating if I just do cold turkey from table scraps? I feel horrible when he doesn't eat anything.
Next question, the reason I give him wet is that he eats it better and when I have given him dry he doesn't chew anyway, he inhales so I didn't see much difference. Is there? I do have other things for him to chew on for his teeth.
Final question....I do leave is food dish own all the time...and it just sits there. Does putting the food down for a short time only really help him to know he needs to get it now or never? I've heard different schools of thoughts on that.

Any and all thoughts and suggestions will be appreciated. I am SOOOOOO overwhelmed with this.
Thanks in advance to all who reply?

There's a ton of food threads on here more than enough to count ...TOTW and Blue aren't some of the foods normally reccomended here...

I'm feeding TOW, while its not my fav, it is working just fine. Nice formed stool, he isn't gassy and isn't starving all of the time. I hate Diamond Food Processing and HATE HATE HATE their association with TOW. I am anal about checking recall notices because I just don't trust anything about their plant. I have spoken with their headquarters and was emailed some info to help me determine what particular plant their food is processd in. Nutro Ultra Holistic is what I had my last OEM on and he did well also, but was a bit gassy. Nutro is also processed by Diamond. As with TOW, it also is not the best but not the worst either and I did have good results on it. Honestly, I am unimpressed with the majority of feeds on the market, they each have a good and bad side.

Hi!
I'm feeding royal canin giant puppy but Im wanting to switch now that my pup is settled. Both my dog and cat are on taste of the wild which has done wonders for them both. Unfortunately, there's no giant or large breed puppy formula... When you go with a 6 star food, is there even such thing or is that just a royal canin marketing ploy?

Well, you'll find most of us won't recommend TOTW cause we don't like Diamond. But if the dogs are doing well on it then go for it.

Having said that, you don't need a large puppy formula. Infact you don't need a puppy formula. Dispite what the pet food companies, and the vets, will tell you they 1: are virtually identical to the adult versions, which are cheaper, and 2: the differences that there ARE, are often bad for the giant breeds. To high (or to low) calcium and phosphorus is the most common issue. In general you want a calcium number between 1 and 1.8, and a calcium to phos ratio of 1.2 to 1.

There are several threads on the puppy food subject floating through here with recommendations. I'm short on time tonight and haven't time for a big long post, Smart Family might get back to you before I do though.

We had our guy on a raw diet but have decided to move back to kibble for reasons I won't go into here. We returned to feeding him Acana Pacifica and Wild Prairie and he seems to do good on these. I will only feed Gunny the best food we can get, and the jury seems to suggest that Orijen/Acana is where it's at. Hopefully we can go back to the raw diet when we get into our house though. FWIW, I can't get Earthborn or I would consider it as well per Smartfamily's suggestions.
