Grinders

Anyone grinding their own chicken for feeding raw? If so what type grinder are you using?

I don't do chicken but I chop venison in my food processor, it makes a good burger patty and meat loaf.

Now that sounds yummy for people too! Our Chi has almost no teeth so we are looking for a way to get her the bone benefits. Also thinking it will help with the gobble snarf monster mastiff who "forgets" to chew the bones well and still occasionally regurgitates them.

I have been thinking about grinding myself, it's work but they will eat out of their bowl than off the floor which saves a ton of cleaning up, plus the whole bag parts tend to bleed thru and soak a refrigerator shelf, which sucks!

If or when I decide I will purchase this

22 Electric Meat Grinder 1 1 2HP 8 lb MIN 450lb Meat Deer Pork Beef Grinding HD | eBay

That's the model we've been looking at. Decent reviews for the price although grinding bones voids the warranty.

LEM. Buying anything else will be an exercise in grinder destruction. Mine is the #22 1hp model. It grinds chicken backs and necks without flinching. I've also done younger duck necks with it. The last batch I ground up also had a thigh and leg mixed in with the backs that the grinder ate right through.
Honestly the only reason I grind anything for my dogs though is because my pug is 13, has horrible teeth and won't even touch a bone or uncut up piece of meat so I make a ground mix for him.

At that price I am guessing the internals aren't going to last. I watched a friend of mine burn up 3 grinders similar to that one before he bought an LEM. My LEM has gone for almost 6 years grinding up 1 batch a month. Every batch I do has 40lbs of backs and 40lbs of necks along with several other things.

TricAP, hoping you see this as PM isn't notifying of new messages. I was checking to see if you ever bought a grinder, if so, how is it working for you. We finally got our puppy. I'm too damn old to hammer is bones. A grinder is a must. :)

I was in a panic. Went to the store this morning and they had whole chickens for .15 cents a pound. About 50 of them. There was no way I had freezer room. So, I was going to grind them up. By the time I ran home ordered a grinder to make sure it would be here in 2 days and ran back to the store. Some lady was loading them all up in the back of her SUV. I bet she wasn't even buying it for her dogs. LOL

Oh no!! That would be the time I would rent freezer space from family and neighbors. Did you offer her 20 cents per pound??

I should have but I really don't have freezer space. So it was a bad thing in a good way. LOL I had Debra networking at work. One free chicken for every one that would keep for us. Still would have been a great deal for us. Oh well, I will be ready this time. :)

I hate it! It has a lamb bone stuck in it and we can't get the damn bone out. Anyone have any suggestions?
