I look forward to each update. Thank you so much for sharing with us. Maggie and Nadia are such beautiful girls and I think its amazing they have become such fast friends.

Maggie used to slap our babies too, Murph used to give her such a dirty look when she did it lol

Took the girls out to a state park Memorial Day. This one is new to Maggie and has a wonderful shady walk (both broken pavement and woodland trails), a nice stream, and ultimately a huge pond that's perfect for swimming.

It was fairly busy with people and other dogs. And of course, going anywhere with *a* mastiff, never mind two!, is a lot like traveling with a rock star. EVERYONE wanted to talk to them and pet them. Both my girls are awesome in this regard. They eat up the attention and are very gentle with the little kids.

Maggie made several new canine friends, and even grumpy, growly-face Nadia was good with the other dogs wanting to sniff and play. There was an older, little black lab mix in particular that both my girls really liked. Nadia especially since the lab liked to swim just as much as Nadia does! Apparently that made her a-okay in Nadia's book.

The woodland path to get to the big pond follows the stream. Nadia loves this as she can dip herself several times along the way. Maggie on the other hand was giving Nadia looks from the bank like "what are you insane? That water is moving!!"

So we get to the pond (which was actually fairly busy with other people on the other end of the pond out of frame).
Nadia heads right into the water like she hadn't been in the stream five minutes earlier and was going to die if she didn't cool off (lol it was 72 degrees today). Maggie wades in a little but doesn't actually go in past her knees.

Nadia is the most laid back dog until she sees water. If she were younger I would totally have gotten her into dock diving, she would have loved that. Here's a pic and a close up of her expression - this is her face the entire time she's in the water. She's a swimming fiend!

Both dogs were exhausted by the time we got back to the car. It was such a nice day out with the windows and sunroof all open in the car.

Maggie was snoring hard - she was sitting up with her face resting on the back seat letting the window wind blow on her. She slept that way the entire hour drive home lol

Nadia was drooping too - kept doing the head bob. (lol the sun streaming in the sunroof made her pictures hard).

She kept looking at me like "I'm tired, mom" - like I was keeping her awake.

All in all it was a great day. They enjoyed themselves and even more importantly, Maggie got to socialize with a bunch of strange people and dogs of all shapes and sizes in a really positive way. Nadia also seems to be a little less "on guard" with Maggie around, we had zero hackles up and no growly face today from her at all with all the other dogs there.

On a side note - Maggie is doing something new that is too cute. She goes and gets a stuffed toy and brings it up onto the bed. She loves on it for a bit then gets down and goes and gets another one. Lather rinse repeat until *all* her stuffed toys are on the bed and then she proceeds to roll on the them and fling them all around. It is the silliest thing to watch. Not very conducive to watching television, but silly to watch none the less.

I think its great you finally found a cure for the problem we have of the dogs knocking the divider down in the back of our car, just put them on the side your trying to stop them from being on right off the bat lol

awesome to read and again we are so happy she found a home she is getting the loving she deserves so much she really is a great puppy

lol, Bloke. My dogs have always ridden in the back seat. I got the divider thing because I help with animal rescue transport and need it for dogs I don't know.

When we first got Nadia she rode in the far back of the station wagon (she was used to riding in the back of the breeders SUV) but she's a very smart dog and noticed right away that Peanut got to ride in the back seat - why couldn't she?

I think if we went for a very long trip we'd fold the back seats down, giving them a larger area to stretch out in.

Maggie is well on her way to being spoiled rotten, although if you ask Nadia that's just how life around here is. It's a rough rough gig they've got. :D

I was thinking about Nadia's interactions with the other dogs yesterday. I really do think that she used to take her cues on how to act with other dogs from Peanut. She used to be fine with other dogs when Peanut was around to be the meet-n-greeter. Then when she was on her own she didn't know to tell friend from foe on her own and was constantly on guard. Maggie yesterday took point on greeting all the other dogs, she just loved them all (well all but one golden that was growly facing everybody so he doesn't count- grouchy thing lol), and I think that Nadia took up those cues that these other dogs were okay, because she really liked the little swimming lab and the little brussels griffon.

I'm getting the sense that Maggie is truly going to be the alpha of the two dogs. Nadia is protective but is not alpha. It's going to be interesting seeing how this plays out as Maggie gets older and even more confident.

we have a divider and Murph just "removes" it, same when we put her and a crate she just "removes" a side and gets out, we just built a new gate for the front porch so she ca chill on there while we are busy or out so we wil see how long that last us lol

It's been really hot here the past couple of days (90+). One of Nadia's favorite activities in the hot weather is to go crash on the deck in the sun and bake herself. Maggie wants NO part of this, nor Nadia's other favorite thing which is getting hosed off. "No, thank you", Maggie says, "I will just stay in the air conditioning."

I've been leaving the girls loose in the living room/kitchen/dining room area. So far so good, nothing gotten into or chewed. I may be able to fold those crates back up a lot sooner than I had expected! Woot!!

Maggie has been really into playing with all the stuffed toys. lol I'm not used to a dog that actually *plays* with stuffed toys, my boxers used to have great fun shredding them withing minutes of getting them. Maggie on the other hand just loves to chew on them and toss the slimy things around. She is SO funny to watch with them. And she is totally stymied as to why Nadia doesn't think that this is the best thing *ever*.

I went to the grocery store earlier and picked her up a new toy. She promptly proceeded to love it to slime-ridden death. I'm envisioning a whole load of dog toys going in the washing machine soon!

And for a double dose of Maggie cute:

So Maggie, or Miss Magoo as I've been calling her, has been with us a whole month now. She is just the biggest baby and it's a joy to watch her tackle each new thing that comes her way. The weather has been vilely hot the past few days and we've had a very quiet a/c-loving week so no new pictures, sorry.

Maggie has taken to our routines quite nicely and we're getting much better at reading her cues for things as well. She's really not liking the "no" word which has been making some appearances in our dialogs with her- most often in reference to shoes she happens to be trying to walk away with in her mouth. She has a serious shoe addiction.

She's eating like a trooper and seems to be doing really well on the 4Health puppy food. We're up to 6 cups of kibble a day (2 meals)! lol Nadia only eats 3 cups once a day. The joys of owning a still growing puppy!

Her skin thing has actually gotten a little worse over the weekend. I don't think the antibiotics along are doing anything. I picked up an antibacterial/antifungal shampoo and we bathed her with it yesterday. Besides a hairball in the shower drain the size of a baseball, she felt SO good after the bath and wasn't itchy. All the redness went away as well. I'm going to call the vet this afternoon and see what he wants me to do about this. She may need to go in for a skin scrape/culture so they can be sure to get the right antibiotic for the job, amoxicillin just may not be cutting it (and here's hoping that doxy isn't the answer).

Maggie is definitely the more dominant of the two dogs. Nadia is older and a bit more confident about things, but as she did with Peanut, Nadia is letting Maggie take point on all things. She is much more content to follow, and Maggie is very content to lead.

Crates are definitely getting folded back up and put away. We just don't need them. We use gates to keep them penned in the living room/dining room/kitchen part of the house when we are not there and have not had any issues with fistfights or destruction. In fact, the only thing Maggie has chewed on that she should have is shoes, which are easy enough to keep picked up.

Mealtimes started being a battlezone early last week with Maggie trying to get to Nadia's bowl (actually it was more like chasing Nadia off so she could have both bowls of food). It was definitely a food resource thing and not a dominance thing, however. So that was when Maggie's food got bumped to the level it is now. I just don't think I was feeding her enough, regardless of what the kibble bag recommended. Once she was getting enough food, mealtimes have been quiet again. There seems to be a fine line with her between enough/not enough food. I hate having hungry dogs as a rule, so for now I'm going to err on the side of giving her more rather than less.

So I bought the dogs one of those snap side wading pools. I filled it with about 5inches of water. Nadia totally grooved on it, a 6ft water bowl she can sit it? Righteous, man (and I use this phrase for her specifically because if we lived near the ocean she would have been a dog that learned how to surf- she loves water that much). Maggie was not so impressed, however. I manhandled her into it and she hated it. Was totally disgusted that her delicate little feetsies were wet. She just can't figure out why Nadia thinks that all things water are just awesome. She would rather sit there and wilt in the heat rather than cool off in the water or even drink from the garden hose. Silly Neo!

All in all I think Maggie has more than settled into her new home. It was a very quick month with a lot of changes and challenges for both Maggie and Nadia and they both adapted well.

My husband and I have also settled into having Maggie here. And just as Nadia wasn't our old boxer Myra when she came to live with us, we had readjust our thinking a little because Maggie isn't Peanut either. While she is as silly and sweet as Peanut was, Maggie most certainly has her own personality and quirks. Quirks such has her habit of randomly chomping on bare human toes, lol. And quirks such as dropping her slimy toy on your face while you're napping. My husband Mike's favorite new expression (always said with a grin) is, "You had to get a puppy." He generally says this while trying to keep his toes away from Maggie's teeth.

So goes life around here...

A t.v. show, for sure. Or maybe a children's book. :) I love your writing style, as well.
