A t.v. show, for sure. Or maybe a children's book. :) I love your writing style, as well.

I actually have been toying around with an idea for a kid's book about Maggie's cleft lip (harelip) - thinking it might be something to teach kids that differences like that in someone's appearance doesn't matter.

We'll see though, I wouldn't even know where to begin writing a children's book. (And I have two adult writing projects that are in process right now that eating my brain like a zombie)

So today was the longest we've left the girls alone together (I had to fetch a relative from the airport and was gone for about 6 hours). No issues and they were most happy to see me when I got home.

Played with Maggie for quite a while on the futon with all her toys. When we got up she made this big, 10 minute long show of putting all her stuffed toys back where Mom got them. She is SO funny about the burying things thing. But only the stuffed ones - the latex toys she doesn't give a fig about. I caught this short vid at the end of efforts.

Her skin looks awesome today btw- I think that shampoo really helped. We'll need to do it again tomorrow but at least we see some definite improvement.

More pics of Silly and Willy:

Maggie: "Hey, what's Mom got?"

Maggie: "Oh, hey, Mom's got that flashy thing."
Nadia: "Oh, crap, Mom's got that flashy thing

Maggie: "Tell me again why I'm not supposed to gnaw on your sandals?"

Nadia: "Ahhhh... naptime."

Nadia: "Really, Mom? The flashy thing?"

Sorry no posts- I've got my aunt visiting from Maryland and we've been on the go.

So this past weekend we took the hounds to the same park with the nice hike and pond. This time Maggie was *this* close to joining Nadia in the stream but still just a little unsure of herself. She was definitely curious about it though. So we headed down to the pond which we had all to ourselves. We let Nadia off lead and she plowed right into the water with a big goofy look on her face. Maggie waded in a little ways but wasn't overly keen on being wet at first. Then she made the grand discovery that if she jumped up and hit the water with her front feet that it made an awesome splash. She amused herself for quite a while with that one! Eventually she waded out to her chest and played bump-n-chase with Nadia in the water. They totally wore themselves out and slept very hard on the way home.

I'm of a mind that you have to let a dog take water-play at their own pace. I know of others that have really traumatized their pups by forcing them them to swim - in my opinion all that does is stand a really good chance of making your dog hate water for their entire lives. So Miss Magoo will be taking the water completely at her own pace. I think she's well on her way to really enjoying it and she very intently watches Nadia (aka the canine Ester Williams) when she's in the water. Having another dog that really grooves on water-play and has no fear of it that she projects is also going to encourage Maggie.

I have discovered that Maggie likes slices of peeled apples. Really likes them although she takes 10minutes to eat one small slice.

We are adamantly working on the "no" and "leaveit" commands. Most often in relation to her shoe addiction. She is HORRIBLE about shoes (and the occasional sock). I have never in my life seen a dog so bound and determined to eat shoes. And she's all slinky/stealthy about stealing them.

Her skin is looking good for the most part. I'm still finding little scabs here and there (and after watching her and Nadia chew on each other I'm wondering is some of them are from that and not the skin infection). We're going to do a few more rounds of the antifungal/antibacterial shampoo but I think we've got this licked. Now the spotchy hair just needs to grow back on the insides of her back legs.

We're having a barbeque here on Saturday with my family, probably be about 10 people- no kids (although I should mention that every time I've take her out where there are kids she adores them and their attention). This will be the first time since we've gotten Maggie that there will be people in her home. She's met everyone except my visiting aunt before so I don't see any potential issues other than needing hand everyone their own drool towel upon entry ;)

That's it for now... will post again after the bbq!

So our big barbecue was yesterday. Well, big for us at nine people, lol we're not much for big crowds. Friday Maggie made herself most un-helpful as I tried to clean and get ready - why do dogs have to tramp and snort through the dirt pile when I sweep?

So yesterday folks started trickling in and both girls greeted everyone. Maggie had meet all but two of the guests before and was excited to see everyone. Both dogs had a grand time going from person to person getting loved on (my whole family are dog lovers). Maggie was also excellent when everyone was eating- she just went and sprawled on the cool kitchen floor and watched. She did have a very overt interest in the platter of shrimp cocktail that my aunt brought, had to tell her "no" several times over that, but for the most part she was fine with all the food.

Maggie was excellent with everyone the whole day, especially my mom and aunt, both of which are not well medically. She would just go rest her big head in their laps and let them pet her. Both her and Nadia grooved on all the attention (and tidbits, we can't forget the tidbits, lol)

They both crashed out pretty hard for a nap once everyone left. Nadia was done for the day, but after an hour or so nap Maggie was ready to play! lol PUPPIES!!!

Maggie's skin looks great, I think we've completely cleared it up at this point. We're still going to use the antifungal/antibacterial shampoo for another week just to be sure.

I was too busy yesterday to take pictures but have some Maggie cuteness I took earlier in the week...

Maggie "swimming" last weekend. It's more like power wading lol.

It's pics like this that make me glad I charge my iPhone on my nightstand. I looked over the edge of the bed and she was all curled up and sleeping. She looks like a TINY puppy there!!!

She stole Nadia's favorite cuddly the other night. That poor blanket is overly loved.

A different angle of the pic above. She's so cute when she's sleeping.

20130616-maggierawhidebone-800.jpg
Maggie working the first rawhide bone I had given her. She worked on it for HOURS and finally got the knot untied- only to have the mean mean mom take it away. lol I retied the knot in that slimy rawhide and let it dry for a day then gave it back to her. I don't really want her to eat it, but she really needs something to chew that holds her attention (other than people's toes and my shoes).

That's all for now :D

It's been a crazy couple of weeks around here!

So Maggie has apparently found the one place to hid her cookies where Nadia doesn't look - the toy box! Lol this was what I saw when I went to pick up her toys so I could vacuum. I didn't realize that she had that many stockpiled!
20130623 001.jpg

Notice the lack of stuffed toys in that box? That's because they are ALL over the house, lol. Maggie is a stuffed animal fiend! She doesn't shred them or rip them up, she just loves carrying them around and flinging them here and there- not to mention getting a good squeak session on once in a while. Her toys have gotten absolutely disgusting. I've started washing them one at a time in the sink with Dawn dish detergent to get rid of the smell and dried slime then hanging them outside in the sun to dry. lol when I give them back to her all clean and dry she acts like they are brand-new toys!

Our neighbor behind us owns a little bull terrier (okay everyone date themselves now and say with me "Spuds!") and he and my two love running back and forth at the back fence. It is apparently a fantastic game. Everyone's tails are going and any barking is happy barking. There is one little knothole missing in one of the fence pickets that they use as a peephole. Nadia will sit out there for hours just waiting for her little friend to come out and play. She's so quiet and good at hiding in the bushes you almost can't see her back there.

Maggie says "Hi!!" Isn't she gorgeous? I've never met a happier dog. She just loves everyone and everything.

I was taking pictures of my deck garden with the "miniature" feature turned on on my digital camera, forgot that was turned on when I snapped this picture of Nadia- made for an interesting effect.

That's about all for now for us - the girls are still doing well together and Maggie just gets sillier by the day.

Hello, My name is Carolyn and I live In Florida, near Tampa. I wanted to know if there is a fee for Maggie, and how is she with cats? We have a almost 5 year old English Mastiff, that needs someone to play with, and I have been looking for a brother or sister for him for a while now. But unless it's the right match for the both of them we just keep looking, it is important that they are happy here and this will be there forever home. My personal email is catnip326@aol.com if you could let me know about Maggie. Thank you Carolyn Harrison

But thanks for asking and there are lots of Mastiffs out there looking for a great new family so thanks for wanting to adopt!

Hi Carolyn!

I'm actually the one that adopted Maggie almost two months ago.

There are a ton of great rescues that could help you with your search for a companion for your EM.

One in particular that comes to mind is Rescue Barn. I know they are looking for a home for a 3.5yr old male EM named Duke that was an owner surrender. Here's the website The Rescue Barn and here on facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/121111417960007/ (Duke is right on the top of their posts!)

Good luck!

lol she's starting to look like a more adult dog these days- but still acts like the puppy :) I've got to pop over to the vet's office with her so I can see what she weighs these days. Was 96lbs her first visit and I think she's added about ten pounds or so. Sill skinny as rail lol...

Oh - btw found some great ear stuff. Zymox (Amazon carries it)- it's another enzymatic treatment, but they also sell ear cleaner as well that has a bit of the same enzymatic thing in it. Once her ear infection was cleared up I've been using the Zymox ear cleaner weekly and have zero issues with yeast.
