Hi,
I just adopted a 3 yr old English Mastiff this weekend from a couple who said they were moving and couldn't take him. I have had a Mastiff before so am not nervous around them. But when I met the dog he did make me just a little nervous. He was jumping on me and barking quite a bit. I brought him home and he's been fine with me. He listens well and is very lovable. However, my neighbor came over to meet him today. She has 2 large dogs and is not nervous around them either. But when she came in my house, I think my Mastiff would've killed her if he could get to her but I was able to hold him back. His owners had told me he was protective and our Mastiff was too but she was never like that. They also told me he had grabbed the vet techs arm before but didn't hurt her. When I was reading through the vet paperwork they gave me, the vet has notes saying that he is aggressive. I'm not sure what to do now. After what I saw, I can't imagine anyone coming in our house ever again. Is this something that obedience training will help with? I've never had a dog that I wasn't sure that I could control.
Thanks,
