Introduction

Just wanted to make a formal introduction. Big fan of the molosser or mastiff breeds. I currently own a german mastiff named Thor who I've had for nearly 6 years of his life. I am hoping to add another family member to the mix soon ( another german mastiff)

My goal is to some day see these dogs being more involved in "working" sports. I read a lot of naysayers comparing the mastiff breed to the herders but I believe that these guys have what it takes. My current boy has a CGC ( which I need to get retested because it expired) but I'm interested in doing some weight pulling as well. Would love to see some defense work done but age and finding a good patient trainer is difficult.

Will post pictures later.

regards

PS wanted to know if it was possible to change the spelling of my screen name. Created the account last night pass my "bed time."

Welcome to the board! We look forward to seeing some pics. :)

I'm interested in weight pulls as well. I have to wait awhile until my boy gets old enough for more strenuous work though.

As far as the SN, I don't think you can change it now. I would either message an admin and ask or just open a new account.

Finally got some pictures. I took these pictures with my phone at dusk, so they are not the best. (Very pixelated and blurry.) My "old man" Thor who just turned 6 in October with his frosty wonders.....Enjoy!

Handsome Boy you have there!
A good friend has a German/European line Dane or German Mastiff. I personally love them.
Is interesting, the Dane seems to be one of the only breeds that the Americans actually shrank (no offense intended).
But the European Lines are huge, very substantial heads and much heavier bone.
At least the few that I have seen.
I know her boy Levi 's head is absolutely massive! :)

Thanks everyone!

Cody his type is so controversial, I just stay out it. Clubs here want more refinement in this breed. While I don't want excessively heavy dog I don't want a greyhound either. IMO dogs here look more like giraffes. While neither types are close to the danes of old, I prefer the type from Europe.

Is funny, my friend and I were just discussing this today.
We were at a show on the weekend and of course watched the Danes.
I understand that the movement is "better" with the more refined dogs, and that is what many judges focus on.
She wants to show her boy, but he would stick out like a sore thumb.
The nice part of the show however was the dog that took breed was on of the more substantial Danes in the ring.
My guess would be an American x European cross.
I share your preference, if/when I get a one, it will have to be European, lol.
