Neo needs to gain weight

Hi,
I just adopted a 6yr old male neo from a lady that does rescue work. He weighs 130lbs but she told me he
Still needs to gain 20-30lbs. In his previous home we was used to getting nothing but people food like pizza. He did have a complete vet checkup a few months ago and everything is normal. She said to mix yogurt in his food or he wont eat it. What is the best way to get more weight on him?

Thanks
Misty

Do you have some pictures you can post? Side view and top view would be helpful. If he truly needs to gain weight google "Satin Balls".

How long have you had the dog? If not long give him time to adjust and take things slow, packing on too much weight too fast can do more harm than good.

Yup, letting him gain gradually is way easier on his joints then packing on weight fast.
Would love to see some pictures as well

Pretty boy very nice looking neo. :)

Honestly he doesn't look bad at all he's a little slim but with time he'll fill out. Poor guy is just trying to get settled.

I agree, just a good food fed to slowly fill him out. I personally don't think he needs anywhere near 30 lbs. He's gorgeous and will look great when he is healthy ;)

Yep, he looks very healthy, and fit.

I would increase his protein intake slowly, and give enough for his rump to thicken a bit, but he looks really good.

Also on a large dog you don't want him fat, would put too much pressure on his joints.

Yeah, he doesn't look that bad, could handle another 15lbs maybe? I definitely don't think he looks like he need another 30. Like everyone else said, just give him a quality food and some time to settle in before you worry too much about it. Nice looking boy :)

Ditto everyone else, his rump could fill out more, but over all he looks reasonably slim and trim. Alot of people prefer additional coverage on dogs, which especially with the larger dogs, isn't a good thing. I'd worry less about the poundage and more about filling in some of the gaps and rounding out his rump without adding to much fat over his ribs. You should be able to feel the ribs comfortably, but not actually fit your fingers down inbetween.

What are you feeding? Yogurt isn't bad, and can be good, but some dogs have problems with the milk in it.

I'm feeding 4health that comes from tractor supply. It has no wheat, corn, or soy. Chicken is the first ingredient. He actually ate this morning without yogurt.

Many mastiffs have issues with chicken as their protein and/or with grains and that food is very grain heavy. It's mostly grain based rather than meat based so just keep an eye on him with that. He may do fine on it, especially if he's been eating it awhile but it probably isn't the best food to get a little more weight on him.
