I am a dog lover! I have been all of my life. My most stalwart companions on this planet have been mix breed rescues. When I came home from Iraq this past time my warmest greeting was from my old female Black Lab Mix. I've had a dog as a member of my family for the vast majority of my 36 years on this planet.
That being said...I have recently made a tough decision and am somewhat ashamed to say that one of your treasured breed died by my hands. It was the first Fila I've ever met. I'd never seen this giant dog. It was beautiful and scary at the same time. I needed to investigate. When it wagged its tail at me I though I had made a really big playful friend. When I stopped however, it lowered its ears & tail, and lunged at me. I nearly shit myself. I've never been so scared. Luckily, I'm fast and Fila's don't like being punched. Nevertheless, It stalked me for an entire block as I backed away. It didn't help that it's little mongrel partner was attempting to flank me.
The street in front of my house is where my children play. I hope you have the picture. For those of you who don't and those of you considering how novel of a concept the Fila is...Overprotective fathers such as myself don't think its novel when you can't keep your dogs contained. You may tell yourself that I have a prejudice against certain breeds. Then explain why I would spend substantial cash for a quality specimine of Standard American Pit to be a companion to my own mother. Oh by the way, I have felt the teeth of a Pit Bull sink into my flesh at a young age. I sent this Fila to doggy heaven and if you can't imagine why then you are welcomed to sniff my taint. If you know the Fila, then from what I read about the breed, you'll agree that they can easily get into really grave misunderstandings.
What I need from people who care is this; an honest opinion. I need to be able to tell a district attorney why I can agree to plea community service, probation, and lose my pistol but...I cannot aquire another Fila and sentence it to live in the tiny assed backyard of a young, broke, stupid, irresponsible child.
If you happen to be young, broke, stupid, and irresponsible well...it sucks. I've been there. Today, my animal friends are all a little bit on the "easy to care for" side of the spectrum. Perhaps yours should be as well. I'm still grateful for my ability to protect the humans I love from irresponsible pet owners. Keep that in mind when you are evaluating "strong", "powerful", "sexy" looking trinkets as pets.
If you live in Austin, are familiar with my case, or just want to take time to call me a dog murdering penis face then your input is appreciated.
