Raw Food Shopping

The closest HEB to us is about 35 minutes away, but I have friends in that city, so maybe I could do a twice monthly puppy and child play date while I go shopping. (My friend has ten extremely well behaved children and four dogs, so lots of socialization opportunities!!)
10 kids...WOW! and 4 dogs...WOW! Be very cautious with introducing your pup to 4 dogs who's home your pup is entering. Closest HEB to me is in Waxahachie which is about 38 miles away.

Oh, and though I don't much care for WalMart, they do price match, so I could take an HEB circular in there......
WalMart will only price match is it's the same exact meat. I doubt Wally World carries same meat as HEB. Just saying... I never buy meat a Walmart for myself or Titan except for frozen fish.

I have a 16 week old Neo and I keep hearing about it, I'm not sure I feel comfortable feeding her raw food. Doesn't anyone feel as though there is a reason why we stopped feeding our dogs raw food? I mean these are not wild animals anymore they are domesticated they have been breed now not to eat raw meats or want to hunt and kill? I guess I just don't know about the raw meat diet so i'm up for debate i'm not against it at all. I have a friend who was just pitching this idea to me the other weekend and he was also telling me his dog has been going out and killing an animal everyday now and it has started to rip these animals apart and eating them? Could it just be coincidence or poor training on their part absolutely but it is a very well behaved dog?

If want to start a debate about RAW food start another thread. This topix is about RAW food shopping.

Usually, I buy reduced meat, not what is advertised. I have 2 HEB's within 5 miles of my home. I hit them at least twice a week, early morning. I'm usually there between 8 and 10am. If your too early it is not marked down yet, go to late and someone else gets the good buy. (like me)LOL The two HEB's are very different in their approach. One reduces like crazy and the other one is very hit and miss.

Regular price for beef heart at HEB is 1.68, recently I got about 10 pounds, reduced to .68 lb.

They have Kidney, at one store it is .98 at the other store 1.29. I get it half price.

Cup of beef liver 1.99 lb of course I wait until it is discounted to .99

They have turkey necks for 2.12, again I wait and grab when they are reduced to 1.09.

Damn.....those prices make me jealous:( Wish we had something like that around here.

How much do you guys pay for beef? If I'm lucky I can catch it at $1.99lb usually is $2.99 or $3.99lb

Feeding raw does not make a dog blood thirsty. I have 2 raw fed Fila's that live with 4 cats. One could careless about the cats. The other one has a strong prey drive, she loves to chase them but never tears them open and eats all their yummy guts. We used to have a free range rooster that hung out, neither dog tried to kill and eat it. However, it was killed by the cats next door, that mainly ate cat food.

Why did we stop feeding raw food back in the day. Marketing and convenience! The same reason we fill our own bodies with that crap. It has been proven that all that processed food is killing us. This is the reason for the push to fresh and organic.

I can get brisket for .99lb during the week of summer holidays. They are untrimmed so they have a big cap of pure fat and are pretty fatty through out but even trimming the fat, it averages out to about 1.25lb. Otherwise, I'm happy when I find off cuts in the reduced bin for 1.79 to 2.00.

Damn.......for that price its a rarity around here.

Same here. Even prices for beef heart have gone up; I used to be able to get them at under $2/pound. Now, it's closer to $3. :(

I do find bags of chicken quarters for .78/pound.

Still have to search deeper into Asian and Hispanic markets, though-- I keep hearing about some good prices, but down in Chinatown the prices are still pretty high...

Yeah me too....chicken quarters are. 79lb but that's gone in three days. I'm going to start checking for Asian/Hispanic markets as well........ its a drive but it may be worth it.
