sulmet to prevent coccidia in puppies?

I've never heard of someone doing anything to prevent coccidia. I would probably ask your vet especially since the dosing is for farm animals who are obviously different sizes than your pups.

i am going to ask my vet when i see her tomorrow

i'm just trying to get feedback on the product and dosage info

this is from another forum:

I've only given it to pups at my job before, so I don't know how much you would give as a monthly routine. We use it as a "preventative" since I work at a pet store and the pups have god knows what…

I like sulmet!!...instead of putting it in their water bowl I use to shoot it straight down there throat!!...they hate that shit!!...they go to slobing on theirselves and just lookin pitiful!...lol...they have a omega 3 paste that u can mix with it that takes the taste away and the dogs luv it!!...real easy to use!.

Interesting. I'd be interested to know if anyone else has experience with it.

the vet says give sulmet (sulfamethazine sodium 12.5%) at the rate of 2ml per 10 lbs the first day and 1ml per 10 lbs for 5 to 7 more days after that

it has to be mixed with something due to the bad taste, i'm going try mixing it with natural balance fish and sweet potato canned dog food

although i've heard that some people mix it with something sweet

General considerations

Sulfonamides are broad-spectrum antimicrobials inhibiting both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, as well as some protozoa, such as coccidia.

I use it when I suspect coccidia and give it with marichino cherry juice in a 50-50 solution so that means 4 ml for the first dose per 10 pounds

I bred Newfys for 32 yrs and never had a case of coccidia. Why do you think there will be a problem?
