im on the fence on cropping my puppys ears when we get her. I love the look of them when done but a little scared of the process. what are your oppinions on this. I know some may think its cruel or what not im not looking for you thoughts on that.

Personally, I think natural is best but to each their own and if you like it and wish to do it, then that is completely up to you. It's like having your baby circumcized, Its more of a personal / cosmetic decision than a decision that can be made by others. There is no real health reason for cropping to be done but it is rather personal choice. It does look pretty painful though after when it is done :(

We have had our litters cropped and haven't had any issues with them but it is entirely up to you. The maintenance isn't hard after having them done (unless you have 8 or 9 done ;) ) but we also have owners that don't want them done so it is optional to out puppy owners.

Its a personal decision, the only best thing would be for you to research and come to your own conclusion. People think anything is cruel hell PeTA thinks owning animals is cruel :lolbangtable: I've had one dog done in my life I'll be honest I had the butterfiles and thought of the "what ifs" but I went with an experienced vet and staff who were more than willing to calm my nerves. :) After surgery my pup was eating drinking and doing puppy things all within minutes after surgery.

what must be done daily for after care and for how long anything I should be aware of would be appreciated!

When we have our puppies done, they are sent home with 3 days of pain meds to give once a day. We are also given a cream to put on the stitches to help them heal faster, after we have cleansed with salt water and this was done twice daily. Stitches come out after 10 days and then we cleanse for a couple more days to get all the gunk off them, but instead of the healing cream we are using lotion to help promote blood flow to the ears to help with hardening the cartildge to get them stand without having to post. Usually within about a week of rubbing they are standing good, but as the puppies like the massage we tend to do it for a while longer. They can fall some during teething but not always.

It is a personal decision that only you can make. Our girls ears are cropped and I am glad they are. It does change their look and it's a look that I prefer to be honest. The benefit to cropping is the ease in ear cleaning and pretty much zero ear infections. Floppy ears are more prone to yeast problems which can be painful.

I think there are health benefits to cropping actually...and if you look at the natural world, no canine animal has floppy ears...they all stand erect, like a crop. But the health benefits being that the inner ear is exposed to more light and air, limiting infection and ear mite development. I am also not convinced that having flaps over the ear canal doesn't, to some degree, effect the way a dog hears. The bottom line is, what is considered a natural, or floppy ear...isn't natural at all...humans did that through breeding. I believe that a more natural experience for the dog is to have the crops done...

Yeasty ears are a food intolerance not necessarily an "open" or "closed" ear. I like the look but it is work, of course I have danes so probably few here are constantly taping.;)

We have our male corso cropped and the process was easy and fast. Only advise is to find a good vet that will ease your mind and will do the crop right. We drove 3 hours to find the right vet.

I agree with everyone, it's a personal choice. My last 2 Neos were cropped and I just got a new puppy and I've decided to leave his ears natural. It does give them a whole different look with cropped ears. I think they are beautiful either way.

I've seen lots of neos with their ears cropped and i must admit it does look good although i like the floppy ear look because they look much less intimidating and just plain cute. Isn't there a cut off age for ear cropping?
