I hate people

Note to self: find out if the younger female dog across the street is intact......she slipped her collar again today (third time this month, so far), and it was a good half hour of her wandering our yard, and the neighbors, before I was able to herd her back across the street (she wouldn't let me touch her) and knock on their door to get them to collect her.

Took Apollo out a while later, and he did his usual follow her path to pee on every spot she'd pee'd on....except THIS time he spent time licking each spot, and by the time I finally got him to leave off and come in he was foaming at the mouth.........I sincerly hope I'm wrong, she's outside on a teather all day, no fence, and Apollo is NOT the only intact male in the neighborhood!

Re: the licking thing--- Mateo does this sometimes on pee stains, and he is focused on it beyond what is "normal." He is intact. Recently he has even started to drop and roll on the rare pee deposit someone has left on the street. Is this an indication of a female in heat in the neighborhood?

Just curious.

Yes, no, maybe? Lol. Apollo doesn't usually do it though, he'll normally sniff, pee on it, sniff again, and move on to the next spot. Combined with him foaming after a few stops though it makes me wonder.

I deal with intact males & females all day long at work. When the girls are in heat, it's hell to get the boys to do anything but sniff sniff sniff lick; sniff sniff sniff lick...I definitely see that reaction, and the foaming, more often when someone is in heat. Good luck Ruth; I'd hate to have to try & control Apollo because my neighbor is a jerk.

If the dog was under control and kept in her yard, or at least out of mine, I'd be fine. I know that for a fact, but with her slipping her collar and coming over here.....will definetly make a point of asking one of the adults or older kids tomorrow if the dog is spayed or not....but yah, I'm thinking not.

I feel your pain - neighbors can really suck. We were outside this summer around the fire pit, and here comes a couple walking right next to our house, in the side yard. OUR yard - not part of the parking lot of the bowling alley - very obviously a mowed, cared for lawn. I didn't notice they had a dog - until my husband piped up and said "excuse me, please get YOUR dog OUT of MY yard!!!" Thankfully both dogs were in the house in their crates - it was pretty late, and they were snoozing. The people did apologize and get moving along - but really? Walking through someone's yard, allowing your animals to poop/pee - which of course drives mine nuts??!! Not cool at all.
I feel so sorry for your neighbors' animals - sounds like they should not own a goldfish.

We have a problem with our yard as we are the last house before the forest. People start up the road on leash but as soon as they see the woods, the dogs are off lead and then allowed to wander through my yard to sniff and pee before slipping through the trees on my side yard. We also have a problem with people slipping down our backyard fenceline to access the houses behind our house. There is a stretch of woods they have to go through so we actually have a very private yard. Used to drive us nuts but since Daisy has come into her own as a guard dog, we tend to get fewer people doing that. It is a chainlinked fence so she can see out (would love to change that but there are too many changes needed in the house first) so she can see out...and they can see her doing her bear charge at the fence. I swear a 15 year old kid almost crapped himself one time and I haven't seen him since. :D

Hopefully she is spayed but it doesn't sound like it. I wonder if they are letting her loose in the hopes of getting a few puppies. Maybe even directing her down towards your dog. Sadly, I have seen people do this (happened to my sister and her Siberian Husky) and Apollo is a beautiful dog. So much fun to be had when you have crappy neighbors.

Part of me would LOVE to put up 6ft fence all the way around, that would solve the evil kitty problem too....I'd miss the deer coming for the fruit trees though. Not to mention the cost of fencing 2 acres, even if we did all the labor ourselves.

You know, it wouldn't surprise me in some ways. I have no idea what breed she is. From the side she almost looks like a sighthound, from the front more like a cattle dog type. I'll have to see if I can snatch a picture or two. I've never petted her, but they called her the "long haired dog who makes my nose itch" though in comparison to Apollo she sure doesn't LOOK long haired (yes, Apollo blows comparisons out of the water lol). I do have to laugh though, Apollo made ONE attempt to get at the GSD bitch kitty-corner to us the first time she came into heat after he matured enough, he hasn't tried since though I know she's been in heat at least once more, but when I was telling my SIL about it her response "oh! Pretty puppies!!!! Bet they'd be pissed though huh?".

The younger female is loose again....SO FAR she's staying in their yard...infact, I'm sitting here laughing, because she's tearing apart their garbage and burying the pieces around their yard.....however if she comes over here I'm going to see if I can tempt her with some bacon pieces so I can get a good look, and maybe some pictures, of her body condition.

Ah well, they came home and caught her. Oh well, I had fun watching her bury bits of trash......

Ah these stories bring back some memories. I have 3 dogs now 2 RottChows and one Boerboel. Before the BB there was this guy that walked his designer Puggle (Beagle Pug) right up to my front fence that is only 4 foot tall picket type fence. The dog would pee and poop right there in front of my dogs. I have security cameras so I saw it happen a dozen or more times. When I am not home I keep the RottChows seperated one in front one in back because both are dominant. But when I am home they do well together. One day while was home I see this guy and his "dog" at my fence and both my dogs are losing there minds. So I go out and talk to him about it. He says it's ok they aren't mad see them wagging there tails. I tell him that is not an indication that the dog is friendly or happy, it may be excited because it thinks it will get a chance to kill your dog. He got indignant and went away. So I routed a hot wire from the electric fence to the outside of my fence and posted signs. The next weekend I watched as his dog took a piss on the electric wire and got the surprise of it's life. I went outside and told him to keep his dog away from my fence period! He made a bunch of noise about calling the cops and such and I told him go ahead and call anyone he wanted. Animal control showed up an hour later Jaime (animal control friend) shows up with him. I told her the story and showed her his dogs droppings. She cited him for not cleaning up after his dog and told him to be on his way. She also told him that if my dog got out and killed his dog she would site him for causing the attack.

Ok lets talk about stray cats. In Ca. there is no law about stray cats and are considered free roaming animals. My neighbors used to have a few cats that would climb into my yards and play a dangerous game with my dogs like getting into the dog food and running off. I don't really like cats and will tolerate them at someone's home I told the neighbor that my dogs wanted kill the cats and there would be nothing I could do since it was 40 yards to my back fence and it would be over before I could get there. 1 week later I was asked if I had seen the garfield cat and I said no. Later I walked the yard and found the cats head on the fence and the rest strung out in the yard. I cleaned up the mess and threw it where the coyotes always are just outside my fence and called it a day. about a month later I heard my dogs in what I thought was a fight so I panicked an ran out back to see that they each had an end of another cat and pulled it in half right as the neighbor came out to see what was going on. I got the dogs to drop the parts and put it in a bag and handed it to the guy over the fence. Animal control (Jamie) came out later that day and confirmed my dogs were not rabid (shots registration and tags current). She told the neighbor he was at fault for allowing his pet to free roam and that there was nothing him or her could do about it. She went off shift and we had a couple drinks and sat in the yard watching the dogs play for a few hours. The next month my dogs caught another cat and the idiot neighbor called the cops this time. They called Jamie and I got another date. The neighbor moved away a few weeks later.

If I could trust Apollo to come back after he took care of the damn thing....so far its been smart enough to stay out of the fenced area.

Apollo has taken a serious dislike for the younger daughter of this family. I'm not entirely sure WHY, I can guess, but the guesses seem far fetched. Either way though every time she walks down the road he alerts, ruff raised and serious, not just his "hey, there's someone going by" that he'll do. And if we're outside, he'll growl under his breath at her walking by. SO FAR we've not met up with her when out walking him, but I think I'm going to switch back to the prong for a while, just in case.....

I hate when you know someone has been teasing your dog and there is nothing you can do about it.

I've never seen her teasing OUR dogs, but I HAVE caught her and her friends teasing the psychotic GSDs kitty-corner to me. And usually SITTING in the middle of the road to do so (between our property and the GSD property). The GSDs are restrained by ONLY an efence, and as much as I really don't care for those dogs if one of them goes through the efence and attacks one of those kids I WILL be testifying on behalf of the dog....

I'm wondering if he made the connection that it was her and her friends setting off the GSDs though, I started noticing him acting less "kinda friendly person" towards her shortly after I noticed her doing that, but this last month its defiently getting worse.

And just now....I'm really glad I wasn't outside with him when she walked by.

Our fenced area is in the back of the house, and not accessible from the front, and the dogs aren't out in it if we're not home cause I'm less than positive that the 6ft fence would stop either if they decided it was nessecary to be on the other side of it....
