  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

I'm going to get a professional behaviorist.

Hell, sometimes nothing works outside. Not clicker training, not juicy treats, certainly not play and affection or praise. Ivy couldn't care less what I think when she's out on a mission.

I'm still working at it (every day, multiple times per day) but more often than not Ivy will ONLY come if she KNOWS I have a treat in my hand and it better be real chicken, lady. This is cool. When we are at the park, or hiking trails, she's on a leash, no matter what. When we're in the yard, she has the invisible fence collar on and a leash dragging behind her only if I'm available to supervise 100%. Otherwise, she's in the fenced area (which she loves) or on the tie-out if I'm nearby gardening and want her company without being able to watch her every minute.

She's only 5 months old and I am hoping the recall will improve in time. But I have accepted that it is extremely unlikely that it will be 100% and I am okay with that. There is nothing wrong with keeping a dog on-leash. She has plenty of room to run in the fenced area and frankly, she's not that much of a "running" dog anyhow. She's more of a "lie around and keep an eye on the perimeter" kind of dog. ;-)

My dogs are responding to the whistle very well, i just have to find a proper whistle, the one i got was a cheap one, small towns suck lol and im not driving 4 hour round trip for a damn whistle hahahahaha or paying triple the price in shipping fees through amazon. Hector turned me on to it after seeing her use it, i have always whistled with my mouth for my dogs and it worked then but the whistle gives the same tone and pitch that they seem to respond to even better, you should give that a try with her recall but you have to work in house with her at first giving her a peice of her fav chicken and see how she does and the whistles are about 10 bucks for a gun dog whistle.

I just join and come across this thread.you not fair to ronin. You gang up when he only try help. Be nice.

What'd you do, join to tell us off? Really?? Broc is looking at spending a small fortune to make sure she's doing right by her dog and Ronin's being an illiterate jackwad and you're defending him? Thats cool, next time you want help I'll deride your methods too....

Broc just be carefull and these people you hire are the real deal, ever since cesar came on the scene everybody and their uncle are behaviourist and most are trainers which are different then behaviorist, just cause someone goes to school and has a phd or bs or what ever and charge alot of money, doesnt mean they are the best you either got the touch or you dont and most people dont. I dont care about certificates on a wall that doesnt say anything about their skills

As far as I can tell, she seems completely qualified to help. I don't know anyone who has used a behaviorist so I can only go by her bio and her emails.

If she's horrible, that will suck. But I'm willing to take the chance.

We use a 50ft leash with Apollo when we're out of the fenced area, gives me some extra room and him room to goof off in.

I don't have a 50ft - she would likely love that - the tie-out is 30ft but I only use it when I am right there because I don't want her frustrated and pulling on the end of it. The leash I usually use for recall practice and playing in the yard is 25ft. I usually get the good ones at TSC, will have to look for a 50ft there. Thanks. :)

Mountainfila - just going back and trying to catch up - Ivy is actually doing tons better on the leash now. We moved from the harness to a martingale collar - just curious if you would consider that 'proper' equipment ... also just ordered a whistle from Amazon. I have Prime so shipping is free, if it doesn't work it's only $9 down the drain. I'm willing to try. I think something that is drastically different from the sound of my voice might actually work to get her attention. Thanks. :)

And broccolini, sorry to be hijacking your thread here ...

I tried a whistle..She stopped caring about it one day hahaha. However, ever other dog in the area seems to run to me when I use to use them.

I actually just bought 2 50ft leads from Amazon tonight. They were 11dollars and change each. We like to have the dogs out in the front yard while we do yard work so this is perfect for that.
