"MINI" Dogue De Bordeaux

I purchased my first DDB yesterday. She is 7 weeks & 3 days old. There were 12 pups in her litter. 2 were still born and and 2 others died by week 2.
My female was not the smallest but she is extremely frail compared to the male pups. She looks like she weights 5 or 6 lbs.
My question is: What is the best/healthiest way to get her to gain weight? I bought Diamond puppy food for her and she seems to like it. I fostered a 2wk old pup last year and bottle fed formula and goats milk. He did great!!!!
WILL GOATS MILK BE GOOD FOR MY DDB?

Again, she is just too cute for words!

As for weight gain...be patient, she will grow at her own pace. So long as she isn't too skinny (doesn't look it from the picture, but hard to tell from that angle) she is doing fine. Just follow the feeding guidelines for the food you are using (try and avoid grains and chicken in kibble). You really don't want to rush weight gain, slow and steady is more important. Can you get a picture of her standing from a side angle?

I don't know about goats milk, but a quick google search says it's good for dogs. :)

Thanks! She is doing really good! Seems to be picking up a bit! The goats milk I fed to a 2wk old foster pup his mom got hit by a car and he wouldn't take the puppy formula. So I decided to try it on her. It only lasted about 4 days and she wouldn't eat. Someone suggested 3/4 cup dry with so I have been mixing 1tbsp of that. And she eats it really well. I have her on diamond large breed puppy grain free. When I got her she had a rash on her tummy and I didn't know if it was because she was being feed puppychow or if the grass irritated her skin. It has cleared up since we got her home. She has even picked up on potty training. She goes to the door to #2, now #1 she goes in kennel then wimpers to be let out, lol!

What a good girl! It's crazy how quickly they will learn something, and so rarely forget it once its learned! And I think you're right that the food she was on was giving her the rash, they are sensitive to grains in their diet. Glad to hear it's all cleared up :)

I think you're holding out on us with those pictures....:p

No I'm not holding out!
This is so funny, I walked in the room and she jumped on my lap gave me a chin kiss and tucked her little head under my arm.
So on this pic she had collapsed and wouldn't stand up, lol!!!! I tried!

daww, such a baby!!

She looks good, still hard to tell with laying down pictures. I've learned to keep my phone/camera ready, cause I know Kujo wont stop or hold a pose for me lol. All in good time, she'll grow at her own pace. :)

Like Musicdeb has said, so long as she is eating/drinking/pooing/peeing, and all those things are normal, she's doing just fine :)

My EM was the smallest in his litter. Now at almost 19 weeks he is 70 plus pounds. Ribs still visible when standing. No fat. Lots of skin rolls! He grows like crazy and I swear he's bigger when he wakes up from his naps. I didn't do anything special. I feed Diamond large breed puppy. Yogurt, banana, apple too. I'm no expert by any means, but was also worried because he was so scrawny and sick when we brought him home too. Everyone online here has been supportive and their advice is good/worked for us so far! Good luck with your cutie!

Kujo, the appointment went really good. GiGi is about 4lbs under weight. Vet gave me some vitamins to give her daily. She should be gaining
1lb a week. But I told you I had been giving her the wet food with dry. I went out earlier and came home to so much diarrhea I almost rain away from home! So gross. So now what do I do? Keep giving it to her or only give her dry. She can't lost any weight, she may disappear!

just saw this!

does she still have the runs? is she still drinking water? need to make sure she isn't dehydrated.

Typically with the runs what I would do is kind of reset Kujo's system by feeding him rice and boiled hamburger (lean) or boiled chicken for a few days until his stomach settles. After that I would get hiim back onto his regular food.

Gigi is how old? I don't recall if they need to be a certain age to do the "reset" with the rice/chicken mix or not...I imagine since she's eating solids you can go ahead and do this method until she gets back on track. If she's anything like Kujo she'll love the rice and boiled chicken!

Good to hear the vet visit went well! Your vet said 4 pounds underweight... can you easily see her ribs when she is standing?

She only ran off 1 day. I think I had given her too much wet food. She wasn't used to it. Last feeding yesterday and twice so far today she has done well with less wet. She's is so funny. She pushes all the dry onto the floor to get to the wet. Then eats rest from the floor.
Her stool is firm and so so stinky. Lol!
