Oh I forgot to tell you guys that Gigi went to her 2nd group obedience training class. Welllllll, I found out that she doesn't like FUFu dogs! Oh she was so cute mingling until I saw here lunge and Chump at a couple dogs!
She really hasn't been socialized with many dogs. She plays with a yorkie a few times a week (male) and DDB (male) couple times a month.
Geshhhh!
She does what I ask it take a few seconds sometimes before I can regain her attention!
We will graduate top of the class in 7 weeks!

Gigi looks great and congrats on "top of the class!" Be aware that consistent socialization is key for well-rounded DDB.

I have to play "devil's advocate" here. I would suggest not allowing your son to lay on top of or be rough with Gigi because the chances of her not liking it and possibly biting are there. Know her body language to know when she is stressed due to the attention.

Musicdeb I completely agree! I am well educated on dogs and bites! I have been on the other end of that.
May look like it but He wasn't laying on her.
I am educating him on dog behavior and don't allow child's play with Gigi! She is always so happy to see!

I am appreciative & I will pay closer attention because apparently you see something I may have missed! Thanks!

I love parents who educate their children re: dog behavior. We have a playdate with a person who brings their grandson and he is well educated on dog behavior. Kudos to you for doing that!

IMO, dog parks are not a good place for any dog, let alone a mastiff. The reason being, other pup owners do not keep close tabs on their pups. When a fight breaks out and a mastiff is involved, guess who gets blamed for the fight?

Go to human parks and walk on leash around people and other dogs. Watch Gigi's body language when people/other pups approach. I would avoid head on meetings with other pups and avoid people rushing her to pet her. If you see a pup and want Gigi to interact, have the 2 pups walk together first and when both pups are relaxed, then allow the meeting and sniffing to begin while keeping an eye on Gigi's and other dog's body language.

Take her for rides in the car, take her to petsmart, take her to festivals and other outside gatherings for socialization.

I have been taking her for rides a few times a week. I have been very clear on petting. I haven't allowed much petting more so the last few weeks because I have notice a change in her with New people.
I will have to take to park more! Thank you for your insight!!!!

Slobber yes she should have stayed another couple weeks but breeder was getting rid of all pups at 8 weeks! I didn't realize how small she was until I got there. (6 hour drive)
I almost didn't get her. I fell in love when I saw her. She has been my baby every since!
I am not even sure if them keeping her would have really made a difference anyway!
She great now. She weight about 45 pounds (est) and doing great!

It is true it is better for pups to stay with their pack until 8-10 weeks but with the proper care, socialization and training, the pup can grow into a healthy adult. Gigi is one of those fortunate young pups with an awesome family!

Thanks musicdeb! She is such a sweet pup. She has come along way. I figured out what the limp was about. Looked like something bit her paw. At first it wasn't swollen but it was extremely red. After a few days I saw a little dot in the center. But I kept it clean with peroxide and ointment with not much outside play for approx 1 week. It gradually went away. SHE'S FINE!!
