Urine neutralizer that WORKS

My parents had a dachshund that would take a crap right in front of you if you ever made her mad. She was very sensitive. Hahaha

Vinegar does neutralize the ammonia in urine. But it does not get rid of the smell that dogs pick up on. And it leaves behind it's own nasty smell.

My grandmother used plain old BAKING SODA for wet/fresh carpet and a water/baking soda/hydrogen peroxide spray for dried urine cleanup.

The baking soda would be sprinkled on the wet area, rubbed in and allowed to dry. Then vacuum up. Gone. Baking soda is great at removing odors, it absorbs moisture like a sponge, is super cheap, and has many other uses.

You can even add a scent to it with a couple of drops of essential oil. We use lemongrass or cinnamon.

If the stains are soaked into wood, you may have to first soak the area with baking soda/water/peroxide solution. Several times for long term/multiple urinations. Then coat with powder and let dry.

A friend of ours had a cat that peed constantly in the front entryway of their home. It had completely penetrated the wood floor. Even down to the subfloor. In that case no amount of cleaning was ever going to get rid of the smell. She had to have the floor and part of the subfloor replaced - and the cat became an outdoor cat.

Wow thanks! And its cheap solution never thought of just plain baking soda. He's wearing pampers now lol, but I know he'll still make a mess.

Maybe he needs to have a coming to Jesus discussion about all the poor unfortunate doggies that live outside. ;) lol

I think I would take him to the vet even though internet wisdom doesn't point to a UTI. Those docs have letters behind their name for a reason and this defies any othef explaination. How old is he now?

Nah I couldn't that cruel, tempting though.... I think the diaper suffice I don't think he minds wearing them either.

Those docs are the same SD pushing, vaccine, snip happy, people who know next to nothing about large and giant breeds in general.

Stone is pushing 8 1/2 months at this time. I think he's going into the "regression" stage as he's now adding the lovely smell of poop in the morning. I just believe he may just be a "hard" one to break....My co-worker and I were talking about this today. Her dog ( boxer) took about year ( she's 7 now) to be fully trained. Even so she still does head shaking things. While her other two dogs go the grass, she decides to go on the deck, or runs back in the house to the rug.:D:lolbangtable:

Change his feeding time to earlier and as Im sure you are take him out right before you put him in the crate?

If he doesn't have anything in him he won't be able to go 1 nor 2 lol.. ?

Josh I think stone is magically coming up with urine some how. He's like a urine Houdini!

Or maybe a pee pee Houdini? I think that sounds better. Lol

Josh, I've tried that too, which is why I pushed it later as he seemed "better."

Raechimay more like poop Houdini!!! Despite wearing a diaper and panty liner there was STILL poop smeared in the crate!

Dpenning and Raechiemay, first off let me say I apologize profusely. Honestly I took no offense but reading my previous response it DOES have hostility in it. Dpenning I have not had good experiences with vets in general but I am not above take my animals for treatment need be. In either case there is NO reason for the response above. Again please excuse my inappropriate behavior. This is a great forum and you guys have helped me more than you know. I do not wish to terminate that relationship.

As for the update with Stone, the diaper resolution is working along with the cleaning products ( suggested by this site :)) There have been some instances in which he's gotten the diaper off completely but usually when that happens he's done his business. Thank goodness lol..... I have noticed his increased urination even after changing the diaper, though this seems to have subsided now. If this does continue he will be going to a vet.

In the mean time, this photo is too funny not to share. Enjoy :) FYI his leg is fine ( no broken bones/injury) its a cast used to straighten his pastern.

No harm done. :). For the most part I agree, I'm just lucky enough to have a great vet who takes no for an answer when we disagree, which isn't often. Cute pic.

As I'm reading this thread.... I start to get a little bit nervous. I have never had an issue before training a puppy. My Chi was trained by the time he reached 3 months by way of puppy training pads. Then by way of on demand at 5 months. By 6 months, he was letting us know when he had to go and refused to go in house. We adopted a boxer/beagle mix a couple of months ago, and it seemed like he was a perfect puppy. No mess ever in the house, no mess ever in his crate... Of course, they both have had their accidents, but only when they have had tummy problems (caused by food allergies). Am I in for a different situation with a mastie? (my nickname for the breed).

Usually mastiffs are highly trainable with consistency. My girl for the most part was trained by 6 months. A lot of people might say they're trained by 3 months, just depends on how much time you devote to the training. Make a schedule for the pup. I think Stone is just an exception to the rule. Lol ;)
