  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Well, tomorrow it is....

Some of you may remember this thread: http://www.mastiff-forum.com/showthread.php/5013-Hello-Everybody!?highlight=kato

Kato is coming to our house tomorrow, where he will be staying for a while. Have had many talks and he sounds great, just needs a little work. Hopefully we can help him along his road. I am pretty sure he will become permanent fixture here. The only thing that would break the deal is prey drive. It's the one thing I have never been able to control 100% (as it's more genetic than training) and on a farm full of prey animals, the one thing that I CAN'T have. So far he has never exhibited any of it, so fingers crossed. I'll know more after this weekend. He loves dogs, it's people, noises, things he has never seen that cause an issue, so a farm full of new things should prove interesting :) . Wish us luck.

After seeing pics I am assuming he is in fact a Presa, not a corso mix. After speaking to a few Presa people I know, they agree, even if his temp is the exact opposite ;) And pics, 'cuz we all love them

Let me know what/if something works for you on the prey drive. My mastiff/weimaraner has a STRONG prey drive and can't even get her near dogs smaller than her right now. I'm at my wit's end...

Thanks guys, I am nervous about him and Rocco, but that's my only reservation, the rest I have a game plan for. Plans help calm my *slight* OCD. The unknown makes me hyperventilate a bit ;)

What works with Arty (not a mastiff but HIGH prey drive and low drive to obey) is a VERY FIRM leave it/drop it/MINE sort of command. Its still not perfect, and if one of the cats races under his nose he'll still chase, but he does understand that the cats are MINE and to touch one is get in VERY BIG TROUBLE. But we also started that with Arty at the age of not quite 8 weeks.....

Thanks ruthcatrin. She didn't display her aggression/prey drive towards dogs until she was attacked by a shar-pei/chihuahua mix across the street when she was about 8 months old. It was all downhill from there. When my sister's teacup chihuahua came to visit last weekend, she tried to kill him immediately. However, when I picked him up and walked around with him, she would just sit there and stare at him and not move. So she knows I'm boss and not to touch, but as soon as I put him down, he was fair game again. So hard....

Anyhow, I apologize for hijacking this post and won't do it again! Congrats Oak Hill Farm!

I wish you the best of luck and hope everything works out well. I'm sure it'll take a lot of work, but if your consistent with training, I'm sure it can be done. :) Good luck!

Well not bad so far. He is my shadow right now. Lilly and him are cool, Peanut is getting used to it. No formal intros to Rocco yet. Not sure on the men folk yet, but he's warming up slowly.
