Tiger you are actually the first person I have evr heard efending lions den.. EVER! All I hear are countless stories of parvo infested dogs from them or temperamenteless dogs.. did you actually see their dogs off of property or did you just see them banging of of their kennel? look up de la luna kennels and ask them what kind of person they really are .. literally stealing trophies from shows and show casing them as their own, complaining publicly that their dogs lost against CAFIB type dogs at a FCI standard function... threatening women on the internet with physical harm... dude even if they have the best dogs in the world (which they have proven to the contrary) I still could not recommend them... this is not just my opinion , this is the opinion of the fila brasileiro community at large. the only thing I can say about them is that they consistently breed a bad dog which they decided to name fila.... nothing else.

I diddnt defend anyone I told you my observations while on Luis`s ranch personally its my obligation to tell you my experience and what you deduct from that rest is on you I never even told you if I'd even get another dog from him lol..... but his dogs were far from tempernentless when I saw them, I mean take it for what you want its meh to me. I don't care if you buy a dog from the man on the moon..... that was my experience with Luis

Tiger meant no disrespect, like I mentioned never spoke to the guy or had any dealings with him or his dogs. There were just some things to me that stuck out on the site. Glad you had a good experience with them, the dog world is "small" and just about every breed has its rumors of said person. It is one of the reasons why I before I choose a breeder I wait years in advance before purchase.

I'm sorry but I could NEVER in good faith recommend those breeders... not only becuase of the dogs they breed but some of them, especially lionsden are extremely detrimental to the breed... run, dont walk away from those breeders. In order for me to recommend a breeder I would have to know what exactly you are looking for as far as traits in the dog.... they will all have temp but some more controllable than others.. need to know what size you are looking for, male female. activity level, in doors , out door dog, etc. let me know about your yard set up and your livestyle. ie, active, social, etc. thanks and good luck.

Angelbears, thanks. Maddy is retired and fixed (no more pups) but she has several pups of breeding age now and one that just whelped a littler. as usual those are already spoken for but they are from Maddy and a son of apingora do ibituruna X an Umiri x Quixaba male...should be hard temps with good nervous system. later on (in about a year) there will be a breeding of fawns with a pup from her X unifila serras de minas sepe and an undisclosed male...should be very nice as well. I will post when they are expected. Juan.

I want a fila who's very unaccepting of strangers, I'm a bit antisocial myself lol. I would prefer a female, fairly active, in door dog. I have two acres of land, it's not fenced yet but we're working on it, size doesn't matter, and like I said I don't really like people that much, and prefer to stay at home with a good book or hike alone (with the dog when I get it)

So Southerngirl, are you single? Are these dogs able to be introduced to a new person over time? I've been somewhat intrigued since i've started reading the Fila threads. I wanted a chow when I was much younger but I never got one because I was single and I heard they could be one person dogs. I think the Fila takes that to a new extreme! How would you go about introducing these dogs to a new family member?

Tiger none taken just wanted to be clear is all. :)

Southerngirl061, you sound like me, lol. From what I have been reading a Fila would be a good match for your lifestyle. If I wasn't renting I'd highly consider one in the next few years but not right now. You just have to be very cautious with the breed and NEVER let your guard down.

Although Juan and I prefer different types of Filas, I think we agree on one thing... Lions Den AKA Luis Yanez is the worst current Fila Breeder in the US. The man is a LIAR, the best description of him I have heard is he is a snake. Imagine the care or lack of puppies get when they arrive at their new home with parvo, giardia and internal infections some leading to death. And we are talking about $2000 dogs here. Do your research, dig deep, there is no one in this breed less respected. He does have A FEW dogs with good bloodlines, but the condition so many have recieved their puppy in is unacceptable and downright disgusting.

I would not put Lone Wolf anywhere near the status as LD. They have a few dogs with good bloodlines as well and they care for their dogs and pups very well. They are good people.

Anyone interested in a Fila should take their time and research. Whether you want a large Fila or small, black or fawn, CBKC or CAFIB, there are good and bad breeders from both sides. And there are breeders who should not even be allowed to breed.

Well as I've said, if I was looking I would only ask two people's opinions. And that would only be because I greatly reaspect their passion for the Fila. Well actualy I would respect Tigers opinion as well as I believe he tells it how it is and if he say's it, thats what he believes. But I suspect he would tell me to ask Juan. hahahaha. So if I was looking I would start with the ones recomended here and then dig into them. And if you hear over and over again to stay away, well I would. Unless your close enough to go see the animals and conditions as Tiger has. And thats for any breeder. I'd rather buy a dog out of a strangers back yard for 200 than pay a fool 2k. Same dice being rolled at the end of the day. Though I would not suggest that I'm just saying.

Chuck - is that an actual sign you bought? If so, where did you get it?

New to the forum and first post...

Wouldnt recommend Lone Wolf's at all, had a puppy from there and she was a mess.

I purchased a Fila from Donna Lindsey at Castle Filas about 7 years ago and to be honest he is the best dog I've ever had. I think her lines were out of Eshebeta but is no longer breeding anymore. Maybe you can contact Shawn and Katrina Waldrip (www.sombraultrajantefilas.com ) for more info, Donna turned me onto them a while back when i was looking for another fila. I am not personally familiar with their breedings but Katrina was vey helpful when talking with her. I am not sure if anyone on the board has any experiences with them at all.

hey tiger, I didnt think you were being abrasive at all. Like someone else said you can get lucky and get an AWESOME dog out of a bYB, puppy mill, aspca, etc but the chances are not so good. i personally have gotten dogs from the aspca in the past and I kept them all but NONE were the actual dog I wanted at that time nor did they have the temperament I wanted at that time...non the less cool dogs and great family pets. No one breeds great dogs each and every time but when the precentages are stacked against that breeder one should look elsewhere.

Yes I am single, and I've heard stories of them accepting new people, but it apparently takes a LONG time for them to be comfortable. The way I understand it, you have to let them meet in a neutral place for awhile, like walking in the park or something, and gradually staying with the person and letting them into your home. That's what I read anyways, but I havent tried it, so I can't say if it works or not.

Yeah, I know about the never letting your guard down thing. I've worked with pit bulls before, and in that respect, these two breeds are the same.
