Hector and a bad back

I'm so glad to hear that Hector is doing better! Hope he recovers completely ASAP and is back to his usual charming self. :)

Thank you. Lately he has mastered the trick of picking out the tastiest food wrappers out of the garbage can to finish up any crumbs that we may have missed lol. Still no walks yet and we have 1 more day of pain meds and just prednisone for probably 15 more days.

It's been a month post injury. We are still on prednisone, 2 every other day, and we are still on full strength recovery SA. No walks yet, maybe today we will go for a short stroll. Took the fatty (he got fat even though his food has already been significantly decreased, I blame supplement) to see his besties.

It feels good to see him run again.

Hector,
The awful crying was the tramadol. I hate that drug being used for dogs.

Please WEAN slowly off the prednisone, stepping down over a few weeks. This is to lessen the likelyhood of Adrenal Insufficiency/adrenal crisis(also known as addisonian crisis).
His adrenals will not able to produce sufficient cortisol to handle any type of stress, because the dosage needed to be an antianflammatory will suppress his HPA. Weaning down will allow his HPA to not be shocked & to come back 'online' more naturally.

Many vets do not know this, & blow off this step-- you might have to push--so PUSH.
If you have 5 pills left, start 1/2ing them, then 1/4 etc.

I have adrenal insufficiency, permanently, and even the best endocrinologists don't always step down the steroids properly for people--so a vet may not have the knowledge.

Thank you for the information! Yes, he is slowly being weaned off the Pred. He was on 3/2x a day for 4 days, then 3/1x day for 10 days, then 2 a day for 10 days, and currently working on the last bits here which is 2 every other day until gone. It seems like he's been on drugs for a long time. We still have 9 pills to go which will be another 10 days span before we are all done!!
