well I have had both mutts and purebreds. As a matter of fact, I have one of each right now, thanks again mom. ;) My dogs are always for love and companionship and if they actually warn/guard, that is bonus. I have had each that were pricey in vet bills and each that were as healthy as could be. Each has pros and cons. There are health arguments for both, as with everything out there. I like getting mutts to just help home unwanted accidents and save a life. But I love getting pure breds to help me know the temperament, size, attitude, coat, etc. I have to plan everything, I am a little bit of a control freak. I can even understand designer dogs. I know that different people have different tastes and that is great. There isn't just one breed out there and I think we are all grateful for that. I think the thing that everyone on this forum does agree on in regards to breeds is that breeding should not be taken lightly and there for done on a whim for a "cool factor" or to make money. Breeding dogs is a giant responsibility. If you don't plan it with thought to all aspects, the pups will pay the price in bad health and bad homes. No one like puppy mills and they have ruined many good dogs. And I am loving the cattle talk, makes me feel like a kid again. My Poppy was a cattleman and I used to help him on the farm. When I would say the cows stink, he would laugh and wink at me then say "nope, they smell like money".

I do completely get where you both are coming from and do believe in our shared bottom line that breeding should be done responsibly.. but after that your reason should be good enough to breed your dogs they belong to you ...period... I know it seemed like I'm against pure breds but I'm just zealous about crosses and am a firm believer that a dog is where you find them though I believe crosses have the potential to be better but on average you'll find better purebreds...
