I cannot blame the police for dispatching the dog given the circumstances. As the police were dealing with 2 armed robbers held up in a house this dog owner is walking his dog around the scene yelling at police. When it is apparent they are about to apprehend him he places his dog in the car with the Windows down.
-Yes the dog did what a protective dog should do but the police reacted accordingly. Could they have handled the dog differently? Yes but they are to protect the people first. The man was being arrested, were the police suppose to lock themselves in their cars until animal control got there? Or back the aggressive-protective dog off only to have the dog possibly injure a civilian?
It is sad the dog had to be put down but the indecent could have ended worse.
Just my sad 2 cents
The dog was turned laterally to the officers at the point he/she was close, once the (3rd) officer reaches for the leash the dog reacts. I understand they are to protect people and them self.. but don't reach down for a dogs leash and expect it not to react.
The dog didn't just run and jump to attack which it had time to do. I'm not sure where you saw anyone say the police were to lock themselves in a car.. you call AC and let them handle the dog that's what they do.
They saw the dog walking around calm it wasn't out to attack innocent "civilians". I have no issue with a cop shooting a dog that attacks them. Re-watch the video..
