Jax has a fever

I noticed that Jax was not acting normal when I got home from work today. He has been lying around and doesn't want to play. He has also been extra snuggly. I thought he was just tired from the extra activity with my sister being home with him today. It was really nice out so she took him for a walk and they played outside. We were sitting on the couch and I noticed he was shivering. I was worried that he may be getting ready to have a seizure or having a focal seizure while sleeping so I have been watching him very closely. He seemed to feel warm so I took his temperature. It was at 104.4. He has had a slight cough and a little "clear" runny nose. I am giving him ice cubes and wetting his fur with a rag. Anything else I should be doing? How high is too high for a fever in a dog? This is new to me, I'm freaking out a bit...any suggestions are much appreciated!

101 to 102 is normal. So he is running a couple of degrees high. Hopefully, he just has a cold and will pass in a couple of days. I would keep him quit, as much as possible.

I hope it's just a cold! Thanks for the info Ruth. I just checked his temp again and its down to 103.5, so at least its going in the right direction. He is always such a spaz and so full of energy, seeing him down like this just sucks. He's shivering and I just want to cover him up and snuggle. He just looks so pitiful :(

Any temp for a dog above 103 is pretty high, and there can be many reasons for this. Personally, if his temp is still up I would take him to the vet. Just my opinion. I hope maybe by now he is doing better :)

It went down last night but was back up to 104.1 this morning. We did more ice cubes and wiped him down. I had to go to the hospital this morning for some tests of my own and just got back. Fever is gone and he is up walking around. He is drinking and has went out to potty. He seems to have some of his energy back. I am going to call the vet in a bit and see what they say...I'm sure it will be "bring him in". I'll keep you all posted.

Oh man I hope it's nothing serious. Quit worrying your mom Jax!
I am pretty sure that he believes his main job in life it to worry me! He was such a challenging pup and then he got sick. It has been one thing after another since he was 9 months old. We have bonded so strongly through it all. I can't stand to see him lethargic, it is so polar opposite to his true self. I am praying that its just a cold!

Thanks everybody!

We are home from the vet with no real news. She said he could've just picked up a bug from a dog at Petsmart but she thought his fever was running a little high for the average bug. They did a CBC, I will get the results back tomorrow. In the mean time she put him on Cephalexin and Rimadyl (should help with the fever).

Thanks for the well wishes! And yes Mary, he sure has! I can't believe he is coming up on his 2nd birthday in a few months. Honestly when his problems started I didn't think he would make it to 1. We are getting through them one by one. We have finally gotten the pyoderma cleared up and he hasn't had a seizure cluster since December 27th. I have always wondered if he has some underlying auto immune disorder but all his tests have always come back clear. I forget to mention, he is also having a bit of lameness in his back end. Last night my husband woke me up to tell me Jax couldn't jump onto the bed. We had to pick him up to get him up there. I thought it may just be that he was weak from the fever but I'm not sure. The vet noticed it today when he was trying to get up from lying down. His back legs kind of drag out behind him when he tries to stand. I have also noticed his gait seems a little off at times today. He typically has issues like that after a cluster or at times when we have upped his meds but neither of those have happened recently. I really don't have a clue as to what could be causing it.
