My first Boerboel

Well I tried to explain but people will believe what they want. I love black dogs and have 2 black mutts that are Rott/Chow mixed. If the black boerboel really did exist and was not a mixed breed I would own one today. The reason I will not buy a mixed boerboel mutt is because it damages the breed by adding in dogs with temperament and health issues that are not the same or desirable in the Boerboel breed. gilles your statement is rubbish. All dogs started as a mix of dogs until a desired outcome was met. Once that was accomplished the mixing stops and line breeding is done until the breed is stable, then breeding with other dogs of the same mix and line breed is done to complete the dog breed which is no longer called a mutt. (< simplified version).

Th0r according to EBBASA, BI, ABC BUK, standard any puppies produced from a black parent are not boerboels and will not be registered as Boerboels.

jtripps, best of luck to you.

They have been great companions. Fearless smart and just beautiful but I would not do it again, and would never recommend it to a less than experienced dog owner. From everything I have ever read about the Fila dog, these are the same but just in a different shape. Protective, aggressive and powerful. If they didn't know you I recommended not turning your back on them (chow) or looking them in the eyes (both breeds). They are and have always been dog aggressive and only like children in the human world except for my very closest friends.

WTF and WHY!
I think it is wrong. What is the reason for mixing these dogs, and why have a litter at all? Has anyone asked for these puppies? Will he take them back if they are unhealthy or aggressive or fearful?

not sure he just has these two dogs as his pets i think he wants a puppy for himself i dont think he is doing it for money ..just because they live together so eventually they might have babies.

Because pure breeds are pure breeds for a reason. Pure breed = closed gene pool. If you want a mixed breed - look in shelters and rescues.

@gilles, My mixed doberman/lab was an abused dog I rescued. My mixed breed Duncan was a petshop rescue I made a mistake allowing him to breed and even though i love Dozer his son I would not do it over he is in constant pain with arthritis and hip dysplasia he is almost deaf now, has small tumors and cysts all over his body, his vision is going and can't be allowed out in public for social visits. Even today Duncan also suffers from arthritis, hip dysplasia and small tumors, his other son Maxx has bad hips, tumors really bad teeth and had to have entropian surgery because his lower eyelids we so turned in he started to develop ulcers on his eyes at a year old. These are reason people should not mix breeds of dogs just because they like the way one or the other looks you have no idea what health problems will be transfered from one breed to the litter or they might both have the same issue and it becoms compounded when you join the DNA.

@jtripps, so you are saying that Prominent Boerboel kennels bred Michelle prior to appraisal? I am pretty sure the orgs require that a Boerboel be appraised and score above 75% before breeding or they don't register the litter. I also think that the South African Authority requires it as well.

Nope, I don't. My pup is registered with EBBASA. My other can't be registered because her father was a rescue and was bred with the assumption the papers were on the way. The previous owners stated they lost the papers after the litter was on the ground. Big ugly mess.
Do you have registration papers from the breeder? They need to send the announcement to SABT for you. Then you have proof of birth and pedigree registration. After a year you get appraised then if you score over 75% you get a qualifying registration, if below 75% you get disqualified paperwork.

Mike do u know the process to register puppies with the sabt/sabba?

Marileen Van Wyk "The pups cannot be birth registered or appraised if both parents have not been appraised and registered in a specific register with submission of their (the parents) DNA profiles."

If the Parent is appraised at a later date?

Marileen Van Wyk "Assuming all other requirements are met, there would be a penalty to be paid for the late registration of the pups."
