New member and new Perro de Presa Canario owner- Kansas City

Hey to everyone out there. Im a new member here from Kansas City and have been spending plenty of time looking through posts looking for tips and tricks. I have always had dogs growing up, and my girlfriend and I have our 4y.o. lab/terrier mix. I am however also now a proud parent to a 10 week old male Perro de Presa Canario puppy named Nico (neeko) short for Nicolas, I figured a spanish name would be fitting. I brought him home two weeks ago and wow, is he growing (literally doubled from 10-20lbs) and learning right before my eyes everyday. I will definitely be reaching out to all of you seasoned veterans for advice in the future. Thanks!

p.s. I know, I know...pics, pics, pics....I am at work now and will throw up some shots when I get home.

He's from a gal locally who has a litter only once every 2-3 years so she can retire her dog and raise a new pup to show. His blood line comes from Shaka zulu and Irema curto

Welcome, I also have an 11 month old Presa.

How has training gone? Have you run into any issues considering the hard headedness? Did you do formal training with a trainer?
I can already start to see this little butthead's attitude, pretty funny when he tries to act like he's not listening to daddy.

You need to build a bond with that pup. Presas are more owner sensitive and you should not be having those kind of problems. Are you going to get a trainer? I know a few there in Kansas if ya need and they know Presas
If ya have questions please ask as I am here to help .. I've been training dogs for many years :)

You know, i def get that stubborness alot but i quickly check him and he knows who's boss. Now all I need to do is come straight at him with a stern voice tone and his ears taper back, head lowers, and he knows he's outta place. Really don't have to do much of that now, he's a good boy. We did do some basic obedience training as a family so he knows he's on the bottom of the totem pole. Riddick follows me around like he's stuck to my hip......he loves daddy!!!! haha

I find that my biggest obstacle right now is his attitude towards large alpha male type dogs, such as mastiff's and pitbulls. He tightens up and I see the fur raised on his back and neck and he wants to challenge anything and everything. I'm trying to get him to chill when other dogs are present cuz I really think it's ghetto looking and shows no discipline when he wants to fight. I understand the natural aggressiveness of this breed but I believe with patience and training, it can be toned down.
