Hi Everyone,
I came upon this web site and am so excited that I found it. The forums are such an excellent source of information. I have a 13 week old (34 lbs) Brazilian Mastiff cross, named Izzy! I know she is not pure mastiff but this site has just confirmed that she is going to follow the mastiff traits. She has been such a delight since the first day I got her. Things are going well and she is growing by leaps and bounds. Seems like every time I look at her, she is taller and bigger!
I look forward to being able to ask questions to other Mastiff owners when I have concerns.

Welcome! Have you done your research on the Brazilian Mastiff? Since it is a mix you may not have a problem but then again there are a couple of mixes on this forum and they seem to have the trait that the Brazilian Mastiff are known for and that is the hatred of strangers. Most are fun loving puppies until about 6 months to 1 year. Then something clicks in them that makes them distrust anyone outside of their immediate family.

Do a search for fila here on the forum. There is a lot of info. If you have any questions ask. There are some very knowledgeable Fila people here. BTW, Fila is just another name for Brazilian Mastiff.

Thank you so much angelbears. I know that right now she is kind of leery of strangers, that is why I am trying to socialize her as much as possible. She is crossed with a pure Red Doberman, I am hoping the mix is good. So far so good. Thanks for the tip on "fila". That will help!

Hi Izzy's Mom

I'll add my warmest welcome. I am sure you will enjoy it here. I am a member of several forums -- Mastiff, GD, and IWH -- and I've found this by far the friendliest, most supportive board.

She's cute! I love those huge ears. Welcome to the forum. I joined recently and it really is an awesome resource. Most important thing I've found is the suggestions on feeding, but all the information is great.

She is so cute, as most puppies are. I do love her ears! m0rg4n, your pup looks just a cute! I am just so glad I found this site. Great tips on some issues that I have. I am having a bit of a hard time with her and her biting. I ensure that I have a toy with me at all times to redirect the unwanted behavior. It's nice to know that other people are in the same boat as I am....lol!

If your Izzy takes on any of the Fila attributes you are taking on one of the hardest dogs to have. Please read everything you can. If your dog has Ojeriza(fila trait). You will have to be on guard at all times. Your friends, mom and dad, cousins are not part of their family and they will bite. You must take caution at all times. My son comes over at least once a week and he can't come in the house because our female would get him.

Did you know about the Fila temperament? I only ask because most people don't, they only find out after they have the dog. I will say this though, most everyone that owns one falls in love with them and are more than willing to make the changes necessary to be able to keep them safely.

Welcome aboard~ I agree with angelbears...one of the hardest dogs to have due to their protective nature of their immediate family. We're not trying to scare you but you need to be informed. Most Fila breeders have a stringent screening process before releasing one of their puppies.
