Proud parents of an eight week old Cane Corso

Introducing our family and new pup. He is eight weeks old. I have read about the breed, but nothing beats talking with folks who can help, which is why I came here. He is doing fine, had his first vet visit yesterday. 21 lbs already! We are working on potty training, but he has to be carried in and out of the house (he refuses to go up or down steps to the yard). He has been with us for 36 hours, and went from quiet and reserved to full wild puppy mode today. He still will not explore the whole house, and he is afraid of the floor in our kitchen as well as any cement (our driveway). I'm guessing that wont last long and its a new house thing. Anyway, I'm glad to have found this forum, I have tons of questions!

Thanks :) He is a handful. Any advice on stages, behaviors? I can hardly believe he is 21 lbs at 8 weeks! I think he is going to be huge :)

Socialize as much as possible, attend obedience classes no matter if your dog knows all the commands it is more about getting them used to the situation.

Know they go through fear periods and the puppy stupids where you think they didn't retain anything you taught them. Patience and consistency is the key and then you will have the most amazing companion for life :)

Thanks :) We plan on puppy kindergarten at 12 weeks, then more after that. Just want to wait until he has his booster shots so he has a good immune system in place. 3 more weeks.

Welcome to the forum, the one thing you need to be aware of is that the CC is addictive :D
Have fun with him, they grow so fast!
I take mine to the vets for a visit and weigh in almost weekly for the first year. Is a good way to get him familiar with your vet in case something happens down the road. For me that's a huge one, I want my dogs and vet comfortable :) besides that as Mary says socialize socialize socialize!

Their silly fears early on are so funny. Leo was terrified of mailboxes, milk gallons, large boxes and so on. Especially the vaccume. A couple of puperinos on it while still and then on had him over it. Welcome, and good luck. Cautions about addictiveness are very true.
