To all raw feeders...I want to switch Luna over but am nervous and overwhelmed

I feed my two in their crates usually, outside occasionally, and rarely on my easy to clean kitchen floor. I seen other raw feeders say they've trained the dogs to eat off a towel or plastic mat. But yes, if I didn't restrain them somehow Apollo would plop onto the couch to chew and Arty would stash his around the house....

Next time see if she needs the help first, but nothing wrong with it. Some dogs need the help at first others get it right away no problem.

Titan eats on a sheet and he stays on it. It took a few times of moving the meat back but he eventually got the message. I'm so glad to hear that Luna loves raw!

We have towels that they eat on and it only took a couple of times of standing there and putting their meat back on the towel for them to get the message. Cane will even take a treat and eat it over his towel, even though it is a one chop mouth full. It is so cute to watch him if his towel is picked up. He will run around and try to find something to eat on.

So happy that Luna has taken to it. Most dogs do.

Titan will do the same. If I put food down in his bowl with no sheet, he just stares at it.

Hey everyone, Luna is eating well but this afternoon she throw up some bones???? Shes acting fine and no chicken meat came up. AM I feeding her too much bone? I got whole chickens and weighed then to equal 2.5lbs and then cut that in half and feed her twice a day in 12 hour intervals 5:30 am and 5:30 pm. Is this normal I m very worried

Was it otherwise yellow bile in the puke, or just flem and bones?

Whats her poop look like? Normal? Lighter colored?

Puking up bones isn't unusual, and if she wants to crunch them up and eat them again let her (I know, gross). Its possible that she's gotten to the point where she needs less bone yes. Give her some extra meat with supper if you can (reduce the chicken carcass a bit if you can).

Perfectly normal to my understanding. Yes, I would add a little more meat and don't worry if her poop is a little runny. It takes a little time for stomach acid to get up to speed in digesting bone. One of the reasons chicken is suggested to start a raw diet. They are softer than most any other bone.

OK her poop actually has been the most soild Ive seen it in weeks. It is a little lighter but otherwise less frequent. 2x opposed to the 4x she was going. The throw up had no bile all white flem and bone peices. I couldnt clean it up fast enough so oddly to say she definity ate most of it. I will take some bone out and add more meat for dinner. Thanks ruth and AB I was worried to death because I want to get this right, and not hurt my dog in the process. (i'm a little ocd when it comes to her)

I went through the same thing and truthfully I still worry. However, to me the proof is in the poop. Cane used to have huge, soft, volcano like turd piles that smoked. Now he poops once sometimes twice a day nice dainty turds to be coming out of such a big dog. Tells me that his body is using most everything he is eating unlike kibble when he was crapping out a pound or more a day.

Lunas poop was like that too. LIke some sort of peanutbutter soft serve ice cream explosion. It stunk and it was hell to clean up. I can so appreciate cleaning up solid poop. its the little things that make me happy!!!

How did I miss this thread welcome to the world of raw feeders! Every has given you sound advice. I remember when I started Thor back up again on raw he would have explosive stools ( poor man). After about a week or two ( thank to help of everyone here :)) He was back to normal.

I am not sure about everyone else but Food lion has their ground beef, chicken quarters, ribs, and pork picnics on sale! Grabbed quite a few and am going back.

Have I ever mentioned I'm jealous of TX prices? But yah, I've started stock up on the "buy now before it expires" sales. I always kept an eye out for them, but as prices start to climb I've become OCD about it......
