Just read through this thread and it was through these forums I myself was convinced to feed raw and its been nothing but a godsend, No more runny poop, no more going to poo 7 x a day, no more drinking gallons of waters to wash down all that dry food with very little water content. I was so impressed by it all that I not only feel Marley on raw now but the Mini dog Hercules and my two cats they are all not on raw no more stinky cat food with very little goodness in it either. Oh and not to mention the cost of some of the premium dog food I was paying more than for real food.

I now have a deal with the butchers here I got 36 Large whole chickens for £60. = $96 US dollars Probably expensive to you guys not sure but thats good for the uk. These are pure large chickens for people.

Marley eats a whole large chicken a day, Im not always sure its enough but he doesnt seem to be losing weight and he seems at a decent size because of the mix of EM and Neo he always has seemed more athletic looking and not as large or dense as a pure EM so I estimate his final weight would probably be in the 140 pounds region, and he is currently eating around 4 lbs of chicken a day.

Gav, if you can, try to get some variety in their diet. They really need some red meat. Organs are vital, such as liver, kidney, spleen, ect. Also, heart is not an organ.

If he is not skinny and you feel comfortable with his weight, then I would say your feeding him plenty.

Our 165(guess) pound dog gets 3 pounds a day and our 120 girl gets a little under 2 pounds, she needs to loose weight, so we have cut her back.

Glad to hear things are working out for you!

lol's I do give liver, kidney, heart, and various other things I was simply putting down the staple part of the diet that I feed. The other thing and I have been meaning to debate this with someone for a while surely if your giving whole chickens they are getting kidney and liver etc every single day but on a much smaller level but then if you tally that up over a week or month wouldnt that be the levels that your supposed to be reaching?

I've never weighed it out but in theory you would think that would be true. You have to also count the days that you are feeding red meat.

Well back to 3 times a day of chicken, beef & treats of gizzards hearts liver in between but still easier than what I was doing.....
They are still hungry, it's the teenage yrs Ugh eat you out of house & home... Starting
2moro giving them more at each meal.... Parent's were big, they are going to be big (not fat, won't allow that)... Looking into
chicken farmers around here, it's cheaper that way.... All ready get a deal on meat from farmer..... & guess what still cheaper
than what I was paying for kibbles... Boggles my mind..... Oh talked to butcher at Price Rapper, did you know if the marked
down meat isn't sold that day, they throw it away???? I said where is your dumpster located, we both laughed.....

I wanted to add, that from what I have read and heard it is a good idea to also supplement the raw meat diet with cooked veggies, such as sweet potato, yams, squash.... I do this with mine.... I drizzle molasses over it and add raw hamburger and raw eggs. In the wild, canines eat grass and greens, that is why they say its good idea to add this kind of stuff to a meat/raw diet. I also like to feed beef heart, beef soup bones, raw chicken.

You don't need to supplement with vegis, if you want to make them treats thats fine, but canines actually have a shorter digestive system than humans which makes breaking down plant matter very difficult and hard on the digestive system. Its more fiber than anything else, and can potentially put irreversable strain on their system.

Tripe: you don't HAVE too, but they'll love you for it.

Fish: if its human edible it should be dog edible. If you're not sure freeze it solid for several days to kill any parasites.

I don't feed veggies either ( Thor made is clear that he doesn't like them lol) but I feed the red meat, tripe with ground organs, etc. Stone is feed kibble until he's older.

I bought Roly dried green tripe because I remembered someone mentioning their dogs loved it so much you would think it was laced with crack and I have to say it's true. I have been having issues getting Roly to go in his crate by himself lately (because I recently started letting him sleep with me at night) and none of the treats I had worked as a bribe until I pulled out the tripe. It smells terrible and I can't help but scrunch up my face every time I open the bag but he is obsessed with it and it works wonders as a bribe, I only wish it wasn't so chewy and smelly or I would use it for training. I highly recommend feeding it to any dog dried or fresh.
