hold the phone... "pit bulls" are not legal in the UK, correct?

So... what happens IF the DNA comes back with some "pit bull" in the mix?? What happens to the dog??

Talk to the breeder and let them know you want a DNA test - if that scares them, get some money back and do NOT test the dog's DNA - leave him as "full DDB" to anyone who asks (as your breeder told you). You do not want proof that there IS "pit bull" in his DNA. If a DNA test doesn't scare them, have them pay for the test so you have proof it is not a "pit bull" mix for any potential future legal issues.

There are many different lines within breeds, right? Could be this breeder selected for less wrinkles and the longer nose...

Then, forget about the whole thing and just love your sweet puppy!!!
@ DennasMom: Pits are definitely illegal in the UK, you cannot own one here and if you are caught with one, even just walking down the street, the police have the right to take your dog there and then. End of story. It is then up to the owner to prove, beyond reasonable doubt the dog is not Pit or even Pit mix. If you cannot prove this and the dog measures up to what is considered a Pit ‘type’ dog the dog is put to sleep. It’s that simple, horrific but that’s the way it happens. Now if it were me, I would definitely want proof, in writing, via a DNA test that my dog is not a Pit or Pit type dog because if I can’t prove it I may as well say good bye to my beloved dog. Now if this so called breeder has a DDB and a staffy and the staffy covered the DDB then there is no worry and I will have the proof of a DNA test to back it up. I would rather be able to say to a cop who is seizing my dog purely on the way it looks ‘here is my proof’ rather than having no proof whatsoever and not be given the chance to get any. Read the story on Lennox, the so called Pit that lived in Northern Ireland. He was seized from his family, he never did a bad thing in his life but because of the way he looked he was PTS. They never, ever got to see him again. He was kept by the council in appalling conditions for years whilst his family fought for his life and it was all for nothing, the judge ruled against him and he was murdered.

Above is a link to a TV show aired earlier this year, it shows how it’s done. The police drive around looking for pit ‘types’ and take them off the owners there and then!

Now if it were me I would want to be able to stand firm and prove my dog is 100% not pit and have it on paper. Even if you get the DNA test done and it shows Pit then you don’t have to tell anyone you have had the test, keep your fingers crossed and hope that the day never comes that a neighbour or ex friend doesn’t rat on you to be mean, or that the cops don’t take a 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] look at your dog as you walk down the street.

yes they do...hense my wanting WTF to treat this seriously. Its no joking matter and they go by on what the dog looks like...nothing more when they first sieze! Purely looks, its disgusting. Im afriad WTF has a 'pit type' looking dog, we know and he knows its not a pit but the cops do not give 1oz of sh1t, as long as it just looks like it could be, possibly, maybe, have pit in there then he runs the very real risk of it getting taken away.

This sounds like the reason and motivation (besides money) that the breeder is trying to pass the dog off as a pure DDB and not a pit bull cross.
